Asmara tense as rumor of President Isaias Afewerki's death spreads

Postby Muna » 24 Apr 2012, 13:04

Friends in Asmara are telling me that the city is tense as residents started to hear about the death of President Isaias Afewerki. The government's spokesperson Ali Abdu told VOA yesterday that Isaias is alive and well, but relatives and friends of Isaias family are has been gravely ill. There is an increased presence of soldiers patrolling the streets of Asmara since Sunday, further fueling the rumor mill. If Isaias is indeed dead, who will succeed him? The ruling PFDJ doesn't seem to have a succession plan and it is feared that the various power centers that Isaias created may clash for control.

What I detect from Deqi Arawit is Muna is telling the truth and he came out to insult her. When the so-called Ethiopians resorted to insult that means they do not have logical reason to defend except to defame the true teller.

Eye witness from Godana Harenet Asmera

Helen Berhe

For those who are worried about our beloved president, I can’t tell you much, but seeing his wife with my own eyes on Saturday around 5 pm with her two friends and walking and smiling.. I couldn’t think anything but positive & normal. She doesn’t seem to be not normal. The president is fine and will make all the enemies of Eritrea bite their tongue. Do not be surprised when they see PIA again and if they will come up with ..ohh this is not Isaias but Duplicate? By the way the way how come they haven’t say anything or reported when he came to the St. marry church to kiss the cross on the Eve of Fasika around 1:30 am ??/

Wow!!!!!! I am surprised by the level of propaganda that has been disseminated in the pass three four days. Pilot, Isaias’s sickness etc. First it is clear that some people are very concerned by the developments in the horn of Africa. The tension between Moslem’s and woyane in Ethiopia, the war between south Sudan and North Sudan, the UNSC consultation with Araia Desta, simmering friction between Ethiopia and Egypt over water . Woyane thinks those are positive developments that are favorable to Eritrea. Thus they brought pilot and Isaias’s sickness and now death, as tools of disinformation. What did pilot say? Nothing more than the script that was given to him by woyane. His agenda had three pillars: 1. Discredit isaias, 2. Make Eritreans believe that they are in weaker position, 3. Reconcile woyane with Eritreans and possibly 4. Prepare Eritreans for Woyane invasion. This is a reflection of what Meles said to his parliament. There is one thing that bothers me a lot. The level of propaganda coordination between the Eritrean websites and the Ethiopian propaganda Machine. Remember a day before Ethiopia made incursion to Eastern Eritrea Ruba-anseba disseminated a false news about the negotiation between Ethiopia and Eritrea and Germany. Did ruba Anseba know what the Agenda was or simply ruba-anseba got the news from sources that thought were reliable. If that is the case, it should be other than Ethiopia? Who that could be? If that is the case what is the role of some parties in the incursion?

Press Statement

The personality they couldn’t overpower for the last 26 years and whose resilience, their demonizing campaigns waged in the past 20 years could not suppress, are now resorting to acting out their fantasies like hopeless superstitious and placing their trust on the burning of incense and myrrh supplicating for the ill-health of President Isaias Afwerki.

Rumors notwithstanding, President Isaias is in robust health, and by all means of medical standard, is at the peak of his health.
