Postby Yakume » 08 May 2012, 05:13

Haile Selassie was born in the West Hararghe of Oromiya Region. Haile Selassie is mixed, from Oromo, Amhara and Gurage. He was the heir to a dynasty that traced its origins to the 13th century and from there by tradition back to King Solomon and Queen Makeda, Empress of Axum, known in the Abrahamic tradition as the Queen of Sheba.

Haile Selassie is not his original name; the original name is Tafari Makonnen. This name “Haile Selassie“, which is “Power of the Trinity” was given by a Somali Shekh from Ogaden. The Italian took his power and then he become refugee in the Omdurman of Sudan, but he back in Ethiopia after the Somalis and British soldieries defeated the Italian forces in the Horn of Africa. Haile Selassie was an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian throughout his life. Haile Selassie is the only Ethiopian leaders who changed the local names of the towns to Jewish names, while Meles is the only Ethiopia leader who changed the land ownership from locals to foreigners "Indians and Arabs".

Those who knew him better had a lot less respect for him. First of all, his father was not Ras Mekonen, I used to hear it from old people who had first hand knowledge that Ras Mekonen was on a campaign when HS was conceived and born. HS was an extremely greedy and selfish man, he was a coward who run from battle to seek shelter in England, after that he was a British puppet. From 1941 on HS never made any decision without asking the permission of his British handler who lived with him in the palace. All the bad policies Eritreans curse Amharas for were actually British policy, Amharas had nothing to do with it.

His end would not have been so humiliating and degrading if he had the courage and the selflessness of the better kings such as Tewodros.

considering that ethiopians often revear their leadership to almost like super human being, haile selassies death at Italian hands would have been a moral blow for ethiopians. He left the country and do the deplomatic work outside in the then league of nation. he managed to pimp the british to mow down the Italians from air in all africa giving a breath of air to the patriots to do their job on making the country ungovernable. Anyways, even if Haile Selassie goes to the battle and become victorious, he would not escape from the bad mouth of eritreans and tigrayans calling him coward. after all, that is what you people call minilik after risking his throne and go more than thousands of miles on mules to face his enemy. only eris and tigrayans bad mouth a king who registered epic victory. to tell you the truth, you people will still call minilik coward if he goes all the way to Rome and burn it to ashes.

If HS had died in batttle, he would have become a martyr, he would have inspired the patriots to fight. By running from battle he discouraged the patriots.

I never called Menilik a coward, so don't put words in my mouth.

Actually, it could have been a moral disaster to the patriots and a moral boost to the Fascist Italians. The best thing he did was going and address his concern to the league of nations. The Fascist could have eliminated the entire population with chemical weapon as they did in some part of the country.

Ato Semere, Don’t justify cowardice. Haile selasie was indeed a person who was excellent in self promotion and of course his self respect and manner during the peace time was not only exemplary but also extraordinary. Apart from that, he was a coward and certified metri who run away when the [deleted] hit the fan.

For your information, it was not the campaign of Haile selasie or his diplomatic dexterity which encouraged the English to engage the Italians in Abyssinia but their own selfish interest. If you read history; when Haile Selasie gave a speech in the league of nations in Geneva Switzerland, all western powers gave him a deaf ears and non of the member states condemned the Italian invasion of Ethiopia. insult to the injury members of the Italian delegation booed him when he made his famous speech. Only after Mussolini and Hiter established an alliance and formed the axis against the allied forces, the English were obliged to Assist Ethiopians.

And when it comes to Menelik, Indeed menelik was an excellent expansionist to the south, he was able to tame the Oromo and other southern nationalities but in the North, his legacy is all about cowardice. For the love of God, he even allowed His Gojame and Gondere brothers to be sieged and sacked by the Dervish which resulted in the death and enslavement of many gondere and Gojame.

Semira,
how many prisons did Janhoy had in Ethiopia and Eritrea?
How many concentration camps did Meles and Isaias build in 20 years?

The SOB skinny azz sellassie was nothing but, yes a coward "leader" who fled his country when he heard the first Italian bomber noise over his village and is a symbol of beggary and the prime example or a roll model of seeing the white man as a master of black Africa, to the previous and the nowadays African leaders except to the really free minds of the Eritrean leaderships and people. When all the Africans were being abused by their respective colonisers and hated it too much, this midget went out of his his way to indirectly made "the never colonised, zeraf, zeraf... ethiopia" to be colonised by the British on those days and every other white man since and in the proccess he instilled that "we the African can not do it ourselves" attitutde to his own people and to the rest of the Africans. And as we speak, his legacy...beggary, corruption, slavary, selling one's interest to the lower bidder etc continues through out Africa, again except in Eritrea. But good for Africa, now Eritrea is working hard to reverse that cycle and slowly but surely we are seeing the proof in the pudding.
Any way, I could care or less on how the ethiopians see him. For all I care they could have erect a statue on his honor. I mean, if my dad or my brother steal billion dollars from the bank and bring the dough to help our family for generations to come and in the proccess help our nation and people and we are certain (100%) that they will not get apprehended by law enforcement but also protected, I would love them too, even if I knew that they are thieves.
Because according to us the Eritrean that midget was exactly what he did at the expenses of our country and people, for the benefit of the ethiopians.
So your question is broad based.
If it was not for his wicked evilness, we the Eritreans would not have been going back and forth with people like you all, here in the forum or any where else. Actually we the Eritrean people would have sat in our rich, industrilized, peacefull and progressive nation of Eritrea (would not have imigrated all over) but or and bring people like you on working visas to Eritrea (your dream place) to do practically every thing in Eritrea for us.
Well, "no need to cry over spilled milk" some say. And we understood that fact and we are marching forward and we will get to our detination soon.
Again well "it is better to learn from some one's mistakes" some do also say. Hey, and we understood that fact and we are using ethiopia and the rest of the African beggar and salve nations as the Higher Institutes of how not to do things. In short ethiopia and majority of the African nations are good examples of bad things while Eritrea is a bad example of good things in the eyes of the neocans.

Something changed in Ethiopia after HS fled to Europe, we don't have any information what happened while he was staying in Bath, England. The secrecy and hush hush about his stay there is such that nothing was written about his daily activities while he was staying there. After he was reinstalled on the ethiopian throne by the British, those who knew him have said he was a changed man, in sinister way. It was after he returned foreigners had such a strong influence on him, especially the educational policy, which produced all the criminals that are tormenting us today.

If HS had died in battle, he would have been a martyr, then Ethiopian could have driven out the italians , instead of the British, then perhaps we wouldn't have a Woyane government that answers to London today. It's not about the presonality of HS, it's about the horrific legacy he left us which is our pain to this day.

All these things shows that, we Ethiopians and also neighbors have got wrong information about our leaders; their names and ethnics, and also contributions to the both national and regional development and nation building efforts. If Haile Selassie was like this, what about other leaders in the past and current regimes? All nations or local communities of the country and also neighbors in the region hate Haile Selassie and other leaders, and we must ask the reasons behind that. One reason is the bad behaviors of these leaders, and also their crimes and genocides against the local citizen or indigenous people of the country like Oromo and Gurage people, and also in the Eretria and Ogaden regions. This affected the relationship with the neighbor countries with Ethiopia.

the Tigray people with a leadership of Meles and his regime (TPLF or EPRDF) are doing and repeating the same mistakes by conducting new genocides in all regions of the country, and having organized bad relationship with Sudan, Somalia and Eretria people. Most of the countries in Horn of Africa region have bad relationship and misunderstanding with Ethiopian governments; both current and past governments. Therefore, are big role required by Ethiopians to correct the history, apologize about these crimes and genosides against the humanity, and build the image and relation of Ethiopia with the other people and countries in the Horn of Africa!
