Eritrea on her 21st

Eritrea on her 21st

Seble Ephrem, London
What a brilliant season of celebrations! We are 21 years old now and legally adults! “Birki WeXina”.
Eritreans sure know how to show their jubilation – a carnival of festivities up and down the country, where young, elderly, men, women, and children, able bodied and those with disabilities all danced, sang, and cheered day and night. May 24th has gone down in history as the national day of independence and of honour.
Those in the Diaspora and their friends celebrated too in every way they could: huge parties, with poems, songs, jokes, drama, and children’s events. Serious messages were also delivered to the powers that be highlighting the unity of the people when it comes to the non violability of their young State - a State which has been recovered from ashes through decades and generations of personal sacrifice of almost every family of the entire Eritrean population.
At 21 Eritrea has now graduated into adulthood. She has gone through teething problems, adolescence and teenage tribulations, while trying to tackle and unravel the many pitfalls, attractions, risks and peer pressure that she had to face in the process of growing. She dealt with every obstruction, calamity and abuse so bravely, with relentless effort that she is now known for her steely strength of character coupled with her customary social values of fairness, equality, and liberty. The foundation and groundwork have been lain and underpinned. There is no going back from now, except moving forward.
Pity those that missed out in the course of development of Eritrea. Like an absent parent, those that chose to sit on the fence or watch and grumble from afar or those that tried to stir the pot on every opportunity, and some even sleeping with the enemy, can have no right to point fingers or admonish or patronise anyone at this time. They had their chance to contribute in the upbringing and cultivation of this brand new nation whereby they could have earned her respect. Knowingly or otherwise they have become the laughing stock of those whose self interests they had been serving for all these years. Their belated understanding of their failure is the reason for their current desperation and consternation. The boat has sailed away without them on board.
Only three weeks ago these “absent parents” had hoped to re-enter Eritrea on the misguided assumption that Eritrea was in need of their imagined grandiose services. Those plans fell through, big time, and shamefully, they had to unpack their bags, lick their gashing wounds and prepare for a long, a very long wait. The President of Eritrea, Issayas Afeworki, commemorated by walking from his Headquarters and all along the length of Godena Harnet (Asmera) amid throngs of cheering crowds. Where on earth does anyone enjoy this kind of safety and comfort among his own people? May Eritrea continue to prosper year on year.

Akele is an [deleted] pretending to be Eritrean. More importantly he is against Eritrea and Eritreans. But, that should not be news as the land of the "Can do" people is a living pain to most of his keens!

i am against the mafia regime and their foolish supporters. the illegal so called gov't is anti the people of eritrea; 21 years after our liberation they are repeating the history of haileselase, menge and they are denying our god given rights and dignity in our own land. they are jailing, torturing, exiling, killing the proud people of eritrea; how can rational, sane person support such an evil regime? the selfish, greedy, halayat who support the devil regime are the enemy of the eritrean people; after we gave up over 100 thousand of our family members and 30 yrs of bitter struggle they expect us to live by the decree of one sick man and sticks of four druken generals. we want our hijacked country back. may 24, 1991 was the day the foolish suckers replaced amharic speaking derg with tigrina speaking derg. we celebrate it with a heavy heart, our dream to live in freedom and peace denied. they have the nerve to tell us eritrea under the mafia regime is paradise, maybe to them it is but to the majority of us it has become hell on earth. by the way who the hell gave them the right to tell us who is eritrean and who isn't; its hard enough they are commiting untold crimes and now they tell us that if we oppose the devil regime we are not eritreans, way gud. they don't have an ounce of shame in their blood

But if it is true as this akele fellow is saying then what´s the point of crying about it in ethi.review? Why give ammunition to the countries enemies here? Are deqebat eritreans a "bejakhum r´duna" people? Crying everywhere for help? We know who the experts in that field are! And it definitily isn´t eritreans.

My second question is: if the govt. has supporters (and they´re many), is your style of addressing them so disrespectfully and contemptibly, going to attract or repel them? Is this the new form of campaigning? Insult and abuse your potential constituency and you sure have their support? You better sue the collage that thought you that political strategy. Your style can be summarized by this statement: throwing the baby with the bathwater. And you are a great service to the eri-govt. you claim to hate.
