There is no Law and Courts in Ethiopia
by K.Bekele
“Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give equality, justice or anything. If you are a man, you take it.”
Malcolm X

You know how Meles Zenawi has made the courts in Ethiopia a mockery of justice. And according to Dr. Berhanu, there
Insightful interview with Dr. Berhanu Nega on ESAT
Dr. Berhanu Nega Ginbot 7 Chairman

is no law and courts as we know it. There is only one person who is the law and the court in Ethiopia. And that is dictator Zenawi, says Dr. Berhanu. Ethiopians have lost all respect to the courts. He further added that even the Westerners have come to understand that Zenawi is just playing with the courts using them as his weapon of repression. For that matter, Dr. Berhanu concluded that the law and the courts can be considered dead and buried.

Dr. Berhanu stressed that Zenawi and his mafia cliques may be in a psychological condition where they are perceiving their fantasy as reality. He thinks this is a very dangerous trend that will prevent Zenawi and his gangs not to come to their senses until their removal from power. He said that this is the nature of all dictators which we have witnessed during the Arab spring with Mubarak and Gaddafi.
Dr. Berhanu further stated that the tyranny that exists in Ethiopia is a unique type of dictatorship that is racist and highly defensive. Zenawi is a control freak who could not rule except by becoming an absolute dictator. He can not survive a democratic society because the people will not vote for Zenawi and his gangs. This has been demonstrated during the election in 1997. Dr. Berhanu further added that prohibiting Skype, jamming of ESAT (Ethiopian Satellite Television) and VOA are part of the measures Zenawi is taking to rule by force.
For the question of why the opposition including Ginbot 7 are not doing something visible after the 1997 election, he said that he is not interested in doing something for the sake of doing something. Dr. Berhanu stresses the need to carry out actions that meet a certain objectives to ensures its success. Many opposition groups may be executing their plans in terms of preparing for the final showdown. He hints that the preconditions are being put in place on a gradual basis. And Dr. Berhanu is hopeful that we are nearing a real change in Ethiopia.

In case Zenawi dies, Dr. Berhanu advised other members of TPLF to come to their senses and save Ethiopia because what is happening in Ethiopia is not sustainable. He hopes after Zenawi, a few TPLF members will start looking at what is going on in Ethiopia. And show some effort to reach the opposition to solve the dangerous problems Ethiopia is facing today instead of seeking revenge. Dr. Berhanu emphasized the fact that after Zenawi’s death, all of us including TPLF members should know is that Ethiopia can not continue as it is now. Following Zenawi’s policy is a dangerous approach. And because of his policy, Ethiopia is now facing an existential threat. Dr. Berhanu concluded that our country needs to change or face a future that is dark and gloomy where Ethiopia can not exist as a country.

Ethiopia: blogger, opposition figures sentenced

By Aaron Maasho

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) – Twenty Ethiopians, including a prominent blogger and opposition figures were jailed for Eskinder won the 2012 PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award from the PEN American Center on May 1between eight years to life on Friday on charges of conspiring with rebels to topple the government.

Ethiopia, a major recipient of Western aid, has said it is fighting separatist rebel movements and armed groups backed by its arch-foe Eritrea.

But rights groups say the Horn of Africa country, sandwiched between volatile Somalia and Sudan, is using broad anti-terrorism legislation to crackdown on dissent and media freedoms. Addis Ababa denies the charge.

Blogger and journalist Eskinder Nega, who was arrested last year and accused of trying to incite violence with a series of online articles, was jailed for 18 years.

Five other exiled journalists and a blogger were sentenced in absentia to between 15 years to life.

Opposition official Andualem Arage was jailed for life. Two other prominent opposition figures Berhanu Nega and Andargachew Tsige, who are out of the country, also received life sentences.

“The court has given due considerations to the charges and the sentences are appropriate,” Judge Endeshaw Adane said during the proceedings in Addis Ababa.

The 20 were charged last year, most of them in absentia, with six counts including conspiracy to dismantle the constitutional order, recruitment and training for terror acts and aiding Eritrea and a rebel group to disrupt security.

They were also accused of belonging to Ginbot 7, a group branded a “terrorist” organisation by the Ethiopian government.

Another four people charged alongside them were not sentenced on Friday and were being treated as a separate case, said court officials.

Exiled opposition leader Berhanu Nega, was also jailed for life on charges of treason in the aftermath of 2005’s disputed parliamentary election, but was later pardoned.

Rumors are circulating about the death of Meles Zenawi

by Kirubeal Bekele

“Pride goes before destruction. And a haughty spirit before a fall”

Proverbs 16:18

Where is that pride and haughty spirit that we usually see in Meles Zenawi’s eyes? Can you see that fear and terror in his
There is a rumor circulating around about the death of Ethiopian dictator Meles Zenawi

eyes on the latest picture? Thanks to almighty God who once again put his words into action using Zenawi as a classical demonstration of his eternal word. God told Zenawi that He is patient but not absent. I hope the rest of the TPLF gang is listening.

There is a rumor circulating around about the death of Ethiopian dictator Meles Zenawi. No one is able to independently verify this rumor yet. We will wait until we get confirmation from our ESAT and other reliable network media.

In the meantime, things are changing quickly in Ethiopia. There is no doubt that the Weyane ruling junta is confused and in panic. Furthermore, it is certain that a red hot power struggle may be in full swing already within the TPLF big wigs sitting on the top. Some of whom may be Bereket, Samora, Berhane, Sibhat, Abbay, Arkebe, and even Azeb and others. Nobody knows what the outcome will be.

My suspicion is the weyane ruling junta is not an ordinary and stupid bunch to allow itself in an internal fight that will make it more vulnerable to an immediate fall. They know how unpopular they are to afford this form of infighting. My take is that they may temporarily stick to each other like glue despite their personal ambitions to grab power. They have done this before and there is no reason why they don’t do it now. They will again do anything to survive this chaos and if possible resist any uprising from the Ethiopian people. It is true that they are in panic and considerably weakened. But they still have a chance to survive together until they can afford to start to wage the power struggle within.

So again, the decisive factor to overpower TPLF now must come from the outside which includes the democratic opposition both in the country and abroad including students, Muslims, Christians, workers, soldiers and others. The first step is a United Front of all opposition forces now as David Steinman articulated brilliantly in his article today. Such a united front should be formed within weeks as soon as possible. Most probably the opposition forces do not have the luxury and the time to debate and negotiate for a long time. Events have already surpassed them. The only choice they have is to catch it and figure out things as they go before this another life time opportunity expires.

The slogan of the day is: A Single National United Front now!

Ethiopia at Crossroads: What has to be done?
by Neamin Zeleke
News of Meles Zenawi’s deteriorating health offer an opportunity for reflection on his legacy and preparation for the dayEthiopia at Crossroads after his eventual demise. Whether Meles Zenawi passes away in the coming days or at some times in the future, we need to grapple with some serious vexing questions on where we are and where we are heading as a people and nation.

We need to speak and act as one. Let us all rise to the momentous occasion. This is the moment and this is the occasion. There are times that put the human soul on trial. This indeed is the very time will put each of us on trial. It is the time that each of us shall be tested whether we are for democracy and freedom or we are for capitulation and servitude under yet another round of tyranny by a minority ethnic junta ad infinitum, in perpetuity.

This is a moment for a grand vision and a moment to act for national salvation, once and for all. Together we can. In unity we can move mountains of horror and injustice, and clear it for a bright new era of liberty and justice for all Ethiopians. Dignity and freedom for all. To be or not to be. Let us seize the Moment!
