Ethiopia: Tigrayans at the army top

the 26th of October, 2008

Since the EPRDF came to power in Addis Ababa in 1991, the Ethiopian army
has been dominated by more seasoned Tigrayan officers who are members or
sympathizers of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF, hard core of
the governing coalition). This preeminence was further confirmed by the
promotion of 12 higher officers announced on 2 September by the office
of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

So, two of the three major generals promoted to lieutenant general are
Tigrayans (Se'are Mekonnen Yimer and Tadesse Worede Tesfaye). The third,
Bacha Debele Buta is a leader of the Oromo People's Democratic
Organization (OPDO, a member of the governing coalition) suffering from
a serious illness. The only brigadier general to be promoted to the rank
of major general is the Tigrayan Gebrat Ayele.

Five of the eight colonels promoted to brigadier general are Tigrayans
(Kinfe Dagnew Gzebre-Silassie, Gebre-Michael Beyene Tedela, Hintsa
Wolde-Giorgis Yohannis, Tekle-Birhan Kahsay Birush and Masho Beyene
Desta). Two others are Amhara (Akele Assaye Asfaw and Wondwosen Teka
Agegnew) while a third (Getachew Gidina Wolbana) is from southern
Ethiopia.

Ethiopians in large part are passive and timid in nature. Look at Oromos (exception arsi Oromos) and Amharas, two extremely large ethnic groups, both toothless this very day. It is no wonder Oromos call Amharas confused Oromos, the docile Dna gene is evident in them this very day.

Jebha you generalise a lot. Who submitted to Italians? Who was timid and docile then? Was it not Menelik who is half Amhara and half Oromo who freed your grandfather?

If we are submissive, then you are arrogant who boasts a lot!

Enkebaber wendim alem.

didn't Miniek himself say, I view the italians as my brothers? Or the other cute quote of "whatever you ask of me, I shall do" to the italians. Was it not the Italians who occupied your beloved Ethiopia and built more roads and buildings in 5 years than Ethiopia ever witnessed? Was it not the same Italians that forced your little midget to flee to England and beg white people to yet again save him?

Was it not theodroes who threw a temper tantrum because the queen of England didn't respond to his letter ...showing his huge need of approval from whites? Didn't he take British hostages and set them free when his army was defeated by British troops?

Was it not the portuguese who sent 400 troops and armor to save amharas from the Adal kingdom (Somali and Afar warriors)?

Time and time again, Ethiopians rely on white people to survive. A culture of begging as the BBC article once put it. From the British in the 40s, to the americans in the 60s, to the soviets in the 70s and now the Americans again.....history has shown, you need whites to survive.

Jebaha, I would have called you names if the above comment was not true, BUTE ITS TRUE! Our people are helpless creatures who do not dare a word when they see gun. TPLF and Weyanes are less than 5% of the total population in Ethiopia and they have no intentions to leave power, they can only be removed and for their luck, there is no one willing to take the risk to remove them. They are going to be there forever. Less than 5% of the total population are nominating 80% of the Generals and highest ranking positions. What a sorry group of people we are to be intimidated and owned by a minority like Weyane.

Typical African dictatorship , surrounding themselves with people of their own tribal members in key positions. Unless their last names are given, these names sound like an Amara names.

Banda,

Quit complicating things here, if ten Generals are promoted eight of them are Tigrians and the two are one from southern hizboch and the other is Oromo from Arusi. There is no mistry about that. The only problem is how are going to remove these animals planting stronger roots? That is the question.
