Eden wrote:A person's ethnic identity is not necessarily the ethnic group of his or her parents even if the parents come from the same ethnic group. If you disagree with this, let me know and allow me to take this further.
Eden wrote:Also my argument here has nothing to do with where my mom or my dad come from so don't try to make sense of what I say by trying to approch it from where I might come from. To make this easier, think of me as I'm from Brazil.
Eden wrote:Just because you are the same ethnicity as your parents doesn't mean all people are the same ethnicity as their parents. By the way, this may not be easy to understand for some but I can point to you a lot of research done on this issue.
Eden wrote:Don't be surprised a tigrian such as isayas separated and led Eritrea because it happens all the time in the world. weird but it does happen. don't forget the afar also got divided, not just the tigre/ tigray.
Semira wrote:I have met Gonderes who went to school with bereket in Gonder. Edens explanation makes sense. Hitler is known as German. But his true origin is in Austria which isn't seen by the German as pure German. what matters most is the persons choice. not his parents or not what others want to classify him.
The moral of the story is that you have equal proportion of Agew gene as the Abyssinians do. But you didn't knew it. what more evidence can i bring you than your governments website ?
It may be postulated that a protracted identity struggle must have been set in motion by the sustained confrontation between the Northern Ethiopians and the intruding Oriental Semites. This would not have been so had the Ethiopians defined either themselves or the Semites as inferior people. Instead the ancient Tigreans conceived of themselves as superior people and at the same time perceived the Jews, Arabs and Syrians as superior in certain respects. Impressed by aspects of Oriental Semitic culture, they may have associated the lighter skin color of its bearers with their achievements. Such a conflict demanded a resolution.
The Tigreans had to deny that they were the Hamites of the Old Testament. They did this by portraying their elite as having been descended from Solomon and David. They used this genealogy to replace an older Ethiopian tradition which held that the kings of Aksum were in fact descended from Ham--through Aethiopia, his son and grandson!
"Having defined their rulers as Semites, the Tigrean scribes could now appropriate the divine covenant with the sons of Shem."
Naga Tuma wrote:Isn't Eritrea's claim over Aksum now, instead of when they planned or executed their independence, at least partly reflective of the assertion in the book?
Isn't carry the names Shaebia (Saba) and Jebha (Jaba) and saying we are not the children of Ham reflective of the assertion in the book?
I want to read hmantes take on this if he is still around and not afraid to talk.
Deqi40 [The sons of 40] Those are Tigrian civilians who accompanied Ras Allula to come to the Eritrean highland and settle there. The fact that Eritrean highlanders demanded that offpsring of those people to stay 40 years before they are seeing as equals and share the joy and the sadness of their neighborhood tells a great del how Eritreans felt about Tigrians. Even after their stay in the area for 40 years blessing your daughter or son in a marraige to the offspring of those people were No no. Not to mention to refuse those people to be granted a piece of land.
