Dude, there is no Axum but Akshum ...which is a typical agew name. Wagshum being another one in northern wollo province which is much like the shum of wag (or governorship of wag). Akshum or governorship of Ak did existed way before Agews mixed with the semites arrival. early axumites were the by-product of a few new yemenite arrivers and the existing Agew domain. So please don't open your fealthy mouth on Agews. History has robbed them their glorious past.
Much of the old Agew is now mixed producing two distinct groups called Tigray and Amhara. But a few scattered population do still exist numbering in thousands in Gojjam (known as Awi), Wollo-sekota, Gondar (wolkait and Felasha), Tigray (Tembein) and Eritrea (Bilen).
Aksum's real word is Agews Akshum.
There is a big finger and foot print of Agews in all over north and central Ethiopia including Eritrea. A fact your government didn't deny in its ministry of information website.
The major town in western Tigray (Shire) is another Agew name.
