U.S. Vaccine Supply May Miss Swine Flu Peak
Prominent epidemiologists at the Harvard School of Public Health said Friday, that the swine flu vaccine will be sorely missed during the peak of the pandemic’s spread.
According to the experts, despite the fact that the swine flu vaccine is much better than expected, the vaccines are still due by mid October.
The health experts also warned that the peak of the pandemic could be as early as next month in the United States.
Dr. Marc Lipsitch, one of the senior epidemiologist at Harvard and one of the members of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, cited that pandemics of 1918 and 1957, which were also caused by new viral strains, had both peaked early. The New York Times report.
Meanwhile, health regulators expect an initial delivery of 50 million vaccines come October 15 and 20 million more per week until 195 million vaccines are distributed.
