Lenel develops Mobile Monitoring application for BlackBerry® smartphones

To address growing customer needs, Lenel Systems International developed a way for customers to monitor security activities from their BlackBerry® smartphones. With the Lenel Mobile Monitoring application, security guards can instantly view and receive incident notifications and specific details about an entry point when alarms go off. Additionally, authorized personnel using BlackBerry smartphones can indicate they are responding to the event in question so other security personnel don’t duplicate efforts – and can even lock or unlock doors remotely.

“We’ve had incredible feedback from customers,” said Justin Dagen, Lead Custom Development Engineer, Lenel. “The application is designed to run in the background even while the device is being used for other functionality – that’s key.”

Developed by Lenel’s Custom Solutions group, the application provides an ideal solution for OnGuard® equipped sites where guards and security personnel are not always located at a central monitoring station. Through this application on a BlackBerry smartphone, users can patrol a facility while still having access and visibility to activities monitored at central stations.

The Custom Solutions group works to provide value driven add-ons to Lenel’s extensive OnGuard installation base. This recognition emphasizes the group’s value and presents solutions to help businesses use their existing resources more efficiently.

This innovation earned Lenel accolades during a ceremony at the annual Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES 2010), and it was recognized as a Wireless Leadership Award finalist. This award honors organizations that have deployed new, innovative wireless solutions to drive business productivity.

The Wireless Leadership Awards are presented annually at WES to recognize BlackBerry customers, and their partners, for innovation and outstanding business results in wireless deployments. Judges look for improvements in processes, workflows, customer service, sales and field force, technology, business analytics and collaboration. Lenel’s Mobile Monitoring application for BlackBerry smartphones was chosen as a finalist in the Private Sector category. Dell and Xerox were also finalists in this category.

WES 2010 was held in Orlando, Fla., from April 27-29. Approximately 5,000 attendees from more than 100 countries were in attendance. The annual event brings together industry leaders, CIOs, IT professionals, developers, and channel partners to discuss the latest BlackBerry solutions and share best practices.
