Democrats Vote to Protect ObamaCare, Americans Continue to Speak Out
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after House Democrats voted to reject a GOP proposal offered by Ways & Means Committee Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) that would have repealed the “individual mandate” at the heart of President Obama’s job-killing health care law:
“If House Democrats were truly committed to helping small businesses, they would have voted for our proposal to repeal the ‘individual mandate’ at the heart of ObamaCare, which they imposed on the American people just a few months ago. Instead, Democrats voted to protect ObamaCare despite mounting evidence that it is crushing small businesses and failing to deliver on its core promises.
“The federal government shouldn’t be in the business of forcing you to buy health insurance and taxing you if you don’t. Twenty states and the nation’s leading small business organization agree that this ‘individual mandate’ is unconstitutional, and they’re fighting to overturn it.
“Americans didn’t want the health care bill to pass, and Democrats voted for it anyway. Americans still don’t want this health care law, and Democrats still voted for it anyway. This conversation is continuing right now on the America Speaking Out website, where Americans are getting engaged by reading about this idea, voting on it, starting a discussion, and sharing their ideas. Republicans are listening and will continue our efforts to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with common-sense reforms focused on lowering costs and protecting American jobs.”
NOTE: The GOP proposal was offered as a motion-to-recommit on H.R. 5486, the Democrats’ so-called small business bill. Rep. Camp posted the idea on the America Speaking Out website, where Americans can read about it, vote on it, start a discussion, and share their ideas.
