Support for rehabilitation work continues to gain momentum after Hurricane Tomas struck the northern and eastern parts of the country three weeks ago.

This afternoon (Monday 29th March), Pacific Fishing Company’s (PAFCO) business partner Bumble Bee Foods donated two containers of food items worth FJD$200,000.

Bumble Bee Foods executive vice-president Mr J Douglas Hines said donating such items to Government ensures the donation goes to the right Government agency, adding that the donation could be best used by those affected by Hurricane Tomas especially those in the north and eastern parts of the country.

FCF Fisheries, a Taiwanese fish supplier with some association with PAFCO and Bumble Bee Foods, also donated $20,000 worth of food items towards rehabilitative relief efforts.

In appreciation of Government’s efforts towards disaster rehabilitation work, Mr J Douglas Hines said he believes the people of Fiji will conquer the disaster and rebuild their homes.

Permanent Secretary for Provincial Development Mr Manasa Vaniqi accepted the donation saying he will ensure the donation is channeled to the victims of Hurricane Tomas.

PS Vaniqi added that “these are the kinds of practical assistance that Government looks forward to.”

Mr J Douglas was accompanied by PAFCO chairman Mr Peniasi Kunatuba and PAFCO’s chief operating officer Mr Chandra Prakash.
