FEMA Administrator Fugate Addresses Preparedness Conference In Louisiana
BATON ROUGE, La. — Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate today addressed the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness Parish Leadership Summit about FEMA’s commitment to coordinating closely with state, local and tribal governments on the Gulf Coast’s recovery and in preparing for the 2010 hurricane season.
“FEMA is only one part of the nation’s emergency management team,” said Fugate. “Today’s meeting provided an opportunity to talk about ways all levels of government, the private sector, non-profits and the public can work together to make communities more secure. As the 2010 hurricane season approaches, FEMA is continuing its outreach to state and local officials in Louisiana and other coastal states on preparedness and response, but we can only be as prepared as the public – that’s why it’s important that everyone take steps now to prepare for severe weather and to help keep their family safe.”
Information on individual and family preparedness can be found at www.Ready.gov.
The summit brought state officials and parish presidents, sheriffs, emergency management directors and fire chiefs together to discuss ways to improve communication and coordination between the state and local governments in responding to large scale disasters.
