Santa Ana police have killed an alleged burglar and wounded another after a pursuit early this morning, police said.

Officers got a call about a burglary in progress shortly before 2 a.m. today in the 2000 block of South Susan Street, a large commercial area, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.

Ois2 Bertagna said officers confronted two men and shot them. He did not have specific details of what led to the shooting.

The wounded men then got into an older green sport utility vehicle and fled, pursued by police for about four to five blocks, but the car spun out of control at the intersection of West Edinger Avenue and South Fairview Street.

Bertagna said one man died and the other remained hospitalized. His condition was not immediately known. The identities of the men have not been released.

No officers were hurt in the incident.

The shooting is under investigation by Santa Ana Police detectives and a unit of the Orange County district attorney’s office.
