Oxfam award winning play comes to Hammersmith for one night only

without comments

Every month I enjoy going to the theatre with my friends. Whether I’m watching a high profile West End show or a one off fringe piece in a small local theatre, a modern adaptation or a classic period drama, I love how you can imagine yourself as part of the show and really feel the hopes, fears and dreams of the characters.

That’s why, on the 14th July I’m really excited about heading to Hammersmith for the one off showing of ‘Colours’, a one woman play about a woman’s fight for survival in Africa.

‘Colours’, showing at the Riverside Studios, showcases the story of a single mother, her choices, her struggles in society, and the spectre of AIDS.

It is written and directed by Rory Kilalea who has huge experience of writing anti-apartheid movies and campaigning films against women’s victimisation, and was the winner of the Oxfam Susie Smith Award in 2009. This is awarded to a published piece of work on HIV and Aids  from Sub-Saharan Africa which has had an international impact.

I would encourage anyone who is keen to gain a greater understanding of issues such as mixed race, human rights and the status of women in Africa, to come along to the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith on the 14th. It should be a thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring evening for all.
