This is Ethiopian Review Policy Research Center’s series on From Dictatorship to Democracy extracted/quoted from books and articles published by Albert Einstein Institution and similar sources.
The Diaspora plays important roles in the democratic process:
1. Act as the voice of conscience to the world.
2. Lobby diplomats for international support and cooperation.
3. Mobilize activists for grassrooots involvement both inside and outside the country.
4. Provide psychological and financial support to the movement.
In building a partnership with the international community, Diaspora call for the:
1. Protecting human rights.
2. Spreading democracy.
3. Building of civil society.
Actions are also needed from foreign diplomats. These include:
1. Promoting the cause within one’s own government.
2. Sending a unifying message regarding human rights and democracy.
3. Exert pressure against human rights violations.
4. Engage democratic groups.
5. Support grassroots independent organizations.
Nonviolent activists in the Diaspora need to make a trip to the country on a regular basis to work side by side with counterparts in the country.
Nonviolent opposition groups need to apply a lot of pressure and make friends with the right people in the State Department.
To sum it up, Diaspora need to be the voice of conscience both outside the country and also within the country. TO VIEW THE DIASPORA ROLE OF RESPONSIBILITIES, CLICK: Division of Responsibilities for Self-Liberation

Number is not really matter, what matters is to be work hard. Yes they are less than 3% but they are working hard for there evil mission. My brother did you see what happen to those people swiped from south region with one letter and mengling around in addis ababa. that is really shame they are ethiopians they have the right to live where ever they want not the while of authorities.

The ethno-fascist TPLF junta survives in power simply because we, as Ethiopians failed to carry out our responsibilities. The woyane is in power not because the Ethiopian peple love it. It is there simply because it has been successful in building walls and barriers between us so that we become enemies to each other. the woyane has been busy working day and night to keep us apart by inciting inter-ethnic violence, relegious conflicts, by muzzling those who speak up, jailing and torturing those who seek freedom and justice. We have been playing woyane’s game of ethnic hatred and division for so long. we are now paying the price. we are all suffering all of us without exception.
do we learn any lesson at all? how long are we going to go on like this?

Political activism demands using foreign medias to the interest of our people. The voiceless Ethiopians voice should be amplified for all to hear it. Diaspora can do it. Here is an example from Straight Talk Africa April 4 show. Do your part !!!
