Negotiating is bargaining for self interest, whereas Dialoguing is satisfying the Others’ interests as well. To understand the Others, first we have to try and know them in their entirety, know their beliefs, their customs, their rites – which requires knowledge or a certain education.
We must understand that the Others are subjects like us, meaning autonomous individuals or groups who command respect. Without that, there is no understanding.
In a successful dialogue, everyone wins.The objective should be agreement, not victory.
