Gates, Viacom, AT&T tell kids ‘Get Schooled’

September 18th, 2009 at 10:47 am |

While Barack Obama was giving US school kids a pep talk, Microsoft zillionaire Bill Gates was also telling kids to pay attention to their education.

But he wasn’t following Obama’s example.

Instead, he went for an ‘education’ conference at the [wait for it] Paramount Pictures lot.

Paramount owner Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, along with “initiative partners” AT&T, Capital One Financial Corporation and NYSE Euronext, launched Get Schooled with a national broadcast, says a fluff release, going on:

“The five-year initiative aims to generate greater awareness and engagement in addressing the nation’s education crisis and to offer practical resources and support to students.”

Practical resources and support to students?

Corporations have only one concern: to look after the interests of their shareholders and everything — everything — they do rotates around that most fundamental of all business principles.

According to the Associated Press, “We don’t know much about substance, we’re about fluff at Viacom,” Viacom boss Philippe Dauman says, “with a laugh”.

Truer words …

But that’s hard, cold reality.

The Über Glitz GetSchooled site features Barack Obama on its index page.

One wonders if he’s actively endsoring the project, as the pic implies?

^^ Say no more.

And no need to stay tuned.
