Nintendo returns to its secret roots: card games
You may think of Nintendo as only a video game company, but did you know it got its start back in 1889? Back then, the company was in the Hanafuda business — handmade “flower cards” for gambling. Nintendo still makes cards, and even sponsors a bridge tourney called the Nintendo Cup.
Along those lines, Nintendo has released a set of iconic playing cards emblazoned with their most popular characters. Ever mindful of attention to geek detail, the cards feature both old school pixelated 8-bit images of your favorite Nintendo characters as well as the more modern 3D versions. You can pick up your set of Nintendo playing cards for 1,050 yen ($11) sometime in July here.
