How to Make a Homemade Mood Light
And the lord said…”Let there be light” Well, I suppose the good lord didn’t have this in mind when he said that, but today I’m going to show you how to make a homemade mood light from our memory chips or RAM.
Step One:
You’re going to need a gang of memory chips from an old computer you no longer use. Or if you don’t have a lot of memory lying around simple buy some in bunk from a used computer store. You’re going to need about 55 chips in all, but they can be different sizes and shapes.
You’re also going to need a piece of 12 inch glass and strong adhesive to glue to memory chips together to form a square that covers the entire piece of 12 inch glass.
Step Two:
After you glued the chips tot he glass now you have to build the box that will house the light. You’re going to need something called handy panel wood, or you can use plywood. Cut out four pieces for the box. Remember to e careful when using a saw, always wear gloves and safety glasses. If you’re under the age of 16 consult a parent for help with using the saw. Also, your box will be smaller than the glass platform so don’t worry if the wood pieces aren’t big.
Step Three:
Use 1 inch corner braces to hold the pieces of wood in place before screwing the box together. The corner braces will make the box a lot sturdier that just using plain old screws without something to hold them in place.
Step Four:
Using the top of your wooden box use that to trace around some sheet metal and cut it our according to the size of that wooden top. Using your adhesive glue the cut out piece of sheet metal to the wooden top. Mount a fluorescent light bulb to the wood piece with the sheet metal glued to it and also if you want to mount it on the wall when it’s done drill another hole for that.
Step Five:
Construct the back cover of the box, make sure the sheet metal and mounted light bulb is inside the box and then run your wiring through the box. You can use a lamp cord if you want because it works better that way. Attached the two lamp cord wires to the wires on your light bulb, check for power and proceed to attach the memory chip cover to the top of the box, or the open side of the box.
After screwing the memory chip cover to the box plug it in and there you go, a safe, homemade and clean mind you source of energy.
