Sharp Aquos LC52D65U 52-inch 1080p LCD HDTV: A Product Review

September 11th, 2009 at 2:00 am |

When you purchase the Sharp Aquos LC52D65U 52-inch 1080p LCD HDTV, you get a very large, quite inexpensive product. You will sacrifice some of the features usually present in a television of its size, but you still get a bang for your buck.

Features

You can purchase the nice and large Sharp Aquos LC52D65U 52-inch 1080p LCD HDTV for well under $2,000. At the $1,350 price tag, however, you give up features that are usually in more expensive televisions.

The number of HDMI inputs in the Aquos LC52D65U is upgraded to five from the usual two or four, which allows you to hook up a variety of devices. You can even plug in your computer, utilizing the television as a monitor.

With dimensions of 33.7 x 49.2 x 12.8 inches, true HD 1080p, and wide viewing angles, it is not a surprise that you can sit just about anywhere to watch television. You have two options: to mount your television on the wall, or keep it on the floor and use a removable black cabinet to hide the speakers.

If you do plan to mount the Aquos LC52D65U on the wall, it’s recommended that you ask a friend or family member to help you put up this 64-pound television. The Aquos LC52D65U is very slim, and if you have problems with it, Sharp has great customer service to help you.

Picture and Sound

You can expect a 6ms response time from the Aquos LC52D65U. Surprisingly, the picture is very clear and crisp for an HDTV under $2,000. You’ll be able to benefit watching both Blu-ray and HD programming, with sound that is pretty good for a cheaper model. And you won’t use up much power watching your favorite television shows because the Aquos LC52D65U is 3.0 Energy Certified.

Yet, you will sacrifice some quality with the Aquos LC52D65U. Similar units come equipped with a 50,000 or even 100,000:1 contrast ratio, but this television only comes with a 10,000:1 ration. It also lacks many of the features that more expensive models have.

Possible Problems

Don’t expect your remote control to be your best friend; you will need to read the manual thoroughly in order to understand how to use this awkward accessory. It is possible to figure it out though. If needed, Sharp’s excellent customer service is there to help you with this as well.

Price for the Quality

All in all, if you are on a budget, the Aquos LC52D65U is the television for you! The Sharp Aquos LC52D65U’s large size and good picture quality make its price attractive and reasonable. You will continue to appreciate your Blu-ray and HD programming on the Aquos LC52D65U. This is a true bang-for-your-buck product that will be sure to satisfy you and your family, in spite of its few shortcomings.
