WAVEOFF 2! Bad Weather Forces Shuttle to Aim for California Landing 11 September 2009 3:41 p.m. EDT
Space shuttle Discovery is now headed for an evening landing in California after bad weather in Florida prevented two earlier landing attempts. Discovery is now set to land at 8:53 p.m. EDT (0053 Sept. 12 GMT) at the Edwards Air Force Base in California, where the local time will be about an hour before sunset.
The already stormy weather at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida deteriorated even further today, prompting the decision. Weather in California is expected to be pristine today, but worsen on Saturday. Here are the last options for landing today for Discovery:
Orbit 219 – 8:53 p.m. EDT at Edwards Air Force Base, California
Orbit 220 – 10:28 p.m. EDT at Edwards Air Force Base, California
