How to Uninstall Norton Antivirus Successfully from Your Computer
Norton antivirus is one of the best antivirus available today and a lot of business and personal users use it to keep their systems free from the latest viruses. Unfortunately Norton antivirus is a very resource intensive software which means you need a computer with higher memory and CPU if you want to install it. Due to this reason, many people want to uninstall the Norton antivirus from their machines after using it for a few days. However uninstalling the Norton antivirus is not a straightforward process and it leaves a lot of footprints even after uninstalling it by traditional methods.
Norton antivirus, just like any other software, runs a lot of processes in the background. This is required as the antivirus continuously monitors all the activities that you carry out on your computer. Whenever you access any file, open your emails, download attachments and run programs, Norton antivirus checks for the presence of viruses and trojans. This also means that uninstalling Norton antivirus would require more steps than the simple uninstall process.
The first step in uninstalling Norton antivirus is to go to Windows control panel and open the Add/Remove programs window. Then you need to locate the Norton antivirus and click on uninstall. This will uninstall the antivirus but still leave some of its components. To remove the Norton antivirus completely, you need to carry out some additional activities that are outlined below.
After uninstalling Norton antivirus from the control panel you need to open Windows Explorer and browse to the Norton antivirus folder. If you have installed it in the normal program files directory, the path would be C:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus. However the path could be different depending on the location where you generally install your programs. The next step is to delete the entire folder so that all the Norton antivirus files are deleted. This will complete the deletion of all the files of Norton antivirus but you still need to look out for the registry entries that are left out in the Windows registry.
To check for the Norton antivirus registry entries, simply click on start and run and type REGEDIT and press enter. Use the search feature of regedit to locate the registry entries left by Norton antivirus. Click on edit and find or simply press control and F keys together to bring out the search window. Type Norton and see if there are any registry entries left. If you find registry entries, open them to make sure that they belong to Norton antivirus (and not some other program)and if they do you can delete them. This will complete the uninstallation of Norton antivirus and free the valuable resources that can be used by Windows to run other programs.
