LG Shine Cell Phone: Simple yet Reliable

September 12th, 2009 at 9:44 am |

With the release of all of the newest touch screen and QWERTY keyboard phones, it is quite difficult for simple phones to compete. In my many years of switching and upgrading phones, however, one simple phone has always stuck with me: the LG Shine.

The LG Shine is a fairly simple phone. It is fairly heavy, but a decent size, both in width and height, so it may easily fit in one’s pocket. The outer aesthetics of the phone are marvelous, providing a sleek, mirror-like finish. This was quite revolutionary for its time, and a strong selling point for many.

By sliding the phone upward, the numeric keypad is revealed. Unfortunately, one issue with this is that there is a small tendency of one’s finger’s slipping and marring the outer mirror with finger prints. Other than that, the phone slides open easily and clicks into place. The keypads are a good size, but if you’ve got larger fingers, there is a bit of crowding towards the top keys. The phone uses standard T9 text input, but this can be changed to itap.

Another feature of the Shine is its joystick navigator. Though this made navigation quite simple and easy, other users have complained that it is quite easy to slip up, as the joystick is a bit touch sensitive, and is used to both move about, and select.

If you’re big on using the internet on your phone, the LG Shine delivers. Browsing the internet is quite simple and easy to navigate. It has good layout quality, and overall, one of the better phones of its time for this purpose. AIM and other IM systems are available, and while quicker than some phones, there is still a bit of a lag reported in sending and receiving IM’s.

Picture quality on the LG Shine is actually quite impressive. It takes great outdoor shots, and pretty good indoor shots too. You can customize the lighting, zoom, and quite a few other camera aspects. Editing the pictures you’ve taken is an easy process as well.

Call quality is good, as there was minimal interference on either end. Both the caller and receiver reported being able to hear one another clearly.

Battery life is another strong aspect of the phone. It’s able to maintain good battery use, even when using internet or IM.

Overall, the LG Shine is very simple to figure out, while still maintaining a fresh, up-to-date appearance. If you don’t care much for the complicated touch screen phones, and don’t like the bulkiness or small keys on the QWERTY phones, the Shine may just be for you.
