June 12, 2007

The exiled Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has announced [Amharic, pdf]today that it will launched a weekly radio broadcast to Ethiopia starting on July 2, 2007. The radio will be broadcast every Monday from 7 – 8 PM Addis Ababa time on 15260 kHz or 19 meter band.

The radio program will include bible teaching, church news, as well as reports and discussions on current social, political and other issues of national importance.

The Holy Synod is led by the legitimate patriarch of Ethiopia, Abune Merkorios, who went into exile when the Tigrean People Liberation Front (Woyanne) came to power in 1991.

While in exile, Abune Merkorios helped prevent Ethiopian churches in the Diaspora from being taken over by the Woyanne-installed patriarch, Aba Gebremedhin (formerly Aba Paulos) who is viewed by Ethiopians more as a political cadre of the regime than a religious leader.

Abune Merkorios has also helped build several churches, providing spiritual comfort to hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians who scattered around the world.

The radio broadcast is intended to expand its spiritual service the Church providing to its followers be a voice for the millions of Ethiopians who are being brutalized by the tribal junta in power.

  4. SOLOMON says:

    DEAR CONFUSED,

Weyane has been using religion to advance its political agenda to destry Ethiopia and replaced the legal patriarch by its ADWA, AND CADRE, PATRIARCH,( ABA GEBREMEDHIN (PAULOS), YOU DON’T THINK HE IS A POLITICAL APPOINTEE..NOT A HOLY AND SPIRITUAL LEADER, IS HE.. ? Therefore, the exiled legal patriarh and Synodos has a moral and a national obligation to serve the Ethiopian Chrisians and preach the Bible and work hard to save Ethiopia from these Weyane cronies before they destroy our country and religoin. I commend the Legal Synodos and patriarch in this endeour. Way to go Abune Merorios, we all with you !!!

I hope it will be a voice of justice and love. I also hope it would be balanced force of unity. I expect the message to recognize the diversity of Ethiopians.
Please please try to broadcast matured theological issues that shares the Love of God to humanity.
Focus on Love, glorifyng God and respecting the dignity of humanity.
We are tired of Trivia from Media. Unfortunately the Ethiopian Orthodox Church has failed the mass. Many Religious leaders lost credibility. It is hard to imagine how the religious leaders became insensitive to justice and love.
May God help you all to broadcast something useful for the people and the nation.

The church,in her history, never been out side the influence of Politics .All the past patriarch did the same thing, these two being the worst though(Abune Merkorios and Paulos).Abune Merkorios was elected the same way Abune Paulos did.Don’t forget guys what the church had been through during Derg’s regime while talking Woyane’s .Personally i don’t expect anything good out of this broadcast, probably hateration and politics in a religious cloth.
    Blessings,

I think broadcasting the Churches teaching with Radio is something everyone should be happy with. But we should consider the following fact:

Who will teach and what we will be taught on this radio? It is evident that there are a lot of anti- EOTC guys working hand in hand with the protestants (the Tehadisos) here in USA and still confusing the fathers in Exile (who still consider them as genuine church servants). This guys (such as, Pastor Melaku Baweke (LA) and Luele-Kale, Atlanta, Tekeste (LA) has a long lasting plan of disintegrating the Church by any means they can and are by now working hard to add fire on the disagreement between the Church fathers. So, their target will be misleading the faithful back home by broadcasting a pro-protestant preaching and politics-backed teaching, both will cause the faithful to become frustrated and leave the Church and exposed for the thieves.

All Church Children should consider this fact before supporting the activity. Let us all of us work for love and unity by pushing fathers in both sides (back home and the exile) to come to agreement on their issues.

I Read an article about a radio station to be started by the so called ‘The Holy Synod’ in the Diaspora. I think broadcasting the Churches teaching with Radio is something in which no body dislikes it. But The fact is who are these people who want to prepare and dispatch the radio program.
Who will teach and what we will be taught on this radio? It is evident that there are a lot of anti- EOTC guys (There are video , audio , and written documents on which these people are doing togather with the Protestant group)working hand in hand with the protestants (the Tehadisos) here in USA and still confusing the fathers in Exile (who still consider them as genuine church servants).

So every body shoud be aware not to support this rediculouse plan.
