The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church’s (EOTC) Holy Synod issued a statement strongly denouncing the court verdict on Monday, June 11, against opposition leaders in Ethiopia as “an injustice and an obstacle to peace.”

The Holy Synod’s stated that the charges against the opposition leaders, journalists and humanitarians had been “fabricated” and the trial had been secretive and unfair. It added that the Holy Synod’s position in this regard is supported by governments and organizations around the world.

This is the Holy Synod in Exile who gave the anouncement. I bet the one in Addis (Aba Gebremedhin) clap his hands and opened a champagne after hearing the verdict. He will rot in hell…washing his hands in the blood of Ethiopians.
    God bless Ethiopia

  5. Minyaregal says:

Everybody, including the church, cannot sit idle when tyrants make a mockery of justice by dehumanizing Ethiopia’s leaders legitimately elected by 28 million strong on May 15, 2007. It is courageous for the Holy Synod to take this position and shows the Ethiopian Othodox Church for the first time is playing the role played by the late Pope John Paul of the Catholic church whose unwavering position on communism was the final death blow for its eventual demise. Meles may be acting with impunity now, but a day will come when he will have to regret this impunity and pay a price for not heeding the call of people for peace and democracy!! Thanks Holy Synod for showing us the way!
