“The 2007 Person of the Year”

It has been a tradition of Ethiopian Review to select ‘Person of the Year’ at the end of every year. In preparation for the selection this year, we have posted 14 nominees and close to 500 readers made their choice known. After consulting with ER advisers, and on the suggestion of many readers, this year we have decided that instead of we making the selection ourselves, we will let the readers vote from among the final 6 out of the 14 nominees. This year, we have also added ‘Who harmed the people of Ethiopia the most in 2007?’ There are 5 nominees in that category. We will leave the decision to readers. The voting will be closed on Dec. 30, 2007. Make your voice heard. The poll allows only one vote per individual.

  1. Ato Elias! It would have been better, if you had nominated the names and let the public categorize them as “contributers” & “harmful”. At the same time give their choices respectively.

  2. I think Jenday Frazer has done more harm to Ethiopia than anyone else because without the support of the US the Mles regime would have collapsed long time ago. Don´t blame the marionette, blame those pulling its strings.

  3. Hi Elias,

I admire your commitment and boldness, while I have to stress also that you sometimes push hard issues you believe are right for whatever reasons, without providing conviencing evidence. Your argument that Shabia has learned from its past relations with Woyane and wants to maintain good relationship with Ethiopians and help Ethiopias to establish demoractic system is a case in point. There are no evidence to prove this point so far to say the least.
Regarding ‘Person of the Year’ you shoud not have came up with your finalized list of candidates, further dividing them into who are worst and who are best. It would have been much better if you leave that to the voters.
    Regards,
    Selamu

  4. Good Work Elias. What made more surprise of the poll is that Hailu Shawal is loathed more than Meles Zenawi, in fact by 24% more. I hope Hailu Shawal read this poll. If not someone should show him on his meeting in Minnesota this week.
