Kenenisa wins Great Edinburgh Cross Country race

January 12th, 2008 |  |  4 Comments

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) — Kenenisa Bekele won the 9.3-kilometer Great Edinburgh Cross Country race for the third straight year on Saturday.

The Olympic and world 10,000-meter champion took the lead with 600 meters to go at Holyrood Park, and the Ethiopian finished narrowly ahead of Zersenay Tadesse and Eliud Kipchoge in 27 minutes, 42 seconds.

Tadesse of Eritrea, who beat Bekele to the 2007 world title last March, finished in 27:43, the same time as 2005 race winner Kipchoge of Kenya.

Tadese’s win in Mombasa, Kenya last year, after Bekele dropped out of the race with stomach cramps, had denied Bekele a record sixth long-course title and ended his sequence of 27 cross country victories over six years.

Congratulation for all Ethiopians and Eritreans. We have defeated the world together. First and second. Even in politics or economics, if we co-operate, we can defeat the world. But first thing first, let us get rid ourselves of the cancer, the Woyanes, that is causing us to bleed internally.

Peace and prosperity for Ethiopians and Eritreans.

    I love you guys.

  4. Ertrawi says:

Amen Castro, the best way to compete is in sports which makes both nations stronger, Eritreans can learn a lot from Ethiopians in track and field and Ethiopians can learn a lot from Eritreans in cycling and I think we would make each other better in football. Like you stated with woyane in power none of these peaceful competitions will be possible, I hope whoever comes to power in Ethiopia after woyane will not follow the politics of hate and enhance the relationship between Eritreans and Ethiopians in all fields of development, stop becoming the sick child of the west, develop our respective economies and become self sufficient, without that we will be doomed to failure, I invite all peace loving Ethiopians to come to Eritrea and see for themselves the development of Eritrea with local resources, learn from it and apply it to Ethiopia which is endowed with abundant natural and human resources to become a force for development and peace.
