  1. The overriding objective of the campaign must be to address the gross human right abuses perpeterated by the agazis over the people of ethiopia in general and the people of ogaden in particular. It sounds a bit unreasonable to demonstrate for the release of a star while the whole country is converted into a walking prison.

The campaign should be “free ethiopia”!!!!!!!!

  2. Hi Elias I understand the concern of justice loving Ethiopians but I am afraid this demonstration by DC Ethiopians in my opinion will encourage the EPDRF to unleash it’s wrath against AFRO.

It will be a better idea to involve the shimagles and if the
woyanes want him to sign a paper, let AFRO sign admission paper and walk free.
How is it possible to prove something like that which supposedly happened a year back with out reasonable doubt in Ethiopia?
My friends let’s not make things harder for AFRO.

  3. I support lemma’s idea it is better to try like he said, “weyanen elih asgebito endelemedew tenkolenginetu endichekinibet kemadreg” if we are actually need him to be leleased, it is better to try by shemagile.

  4. I hope AFRO did not do what they acuse him for, he is a famous and great artist, but the other person who lost ihs, his life was great and special. for speking the truth not for weyane, but let the truth speak

  5. I really don’t understand the rush to protest. Teddy is a normal individual and this issue may not be political. I am a human being, I am a christian and I am an Ethiopian. Though, I assume his innocence until proven guilty but if I say that he should not be questioned for the death of an innocent individual, I would be commiting a sin. Let’s not rush to judgment.
    Thank you

  6. I support the idea of demonstration.Teddy was fighting for his people with his only weapon which is his music.I wish I live in the area so I can join my brotheres and sisters.Good luck to my fellow Ethiopians on April 28.

  7. Eventhough Teddi Afro is another victim of the TPLF regime, making Tedi Afro the main reason of the demonstration seems to me too stupid.
There are abundant human rights and civil rights abuses in Ethiopia to demonstrate about ! For example we should demand Free Mass media in Ethiopia. We could demand to lift the jamming of VOA and Germany Radios in Ethiopia etc.
I call ethiopia every week. Ethiopians are unable to listen to any radios from abroad. Even Abebe belew’s new Radio transmission is being blocked completely. There are still thousands of Kinjit supporters forgotten in jails.
Howmany of us know that Ethiopia is still under Martial law? So we could demand the emeregency law reinstated 3 years ago to be lifted etc.. Not only in washington, I also believe the demonstration at all Weyane embassies around the world should continue to expose the dictators at Minilik Palace.

  8. We will be there on time.In Ethiopia many people already arranged to visit teddy in kality prison on sunday if not denied by weyane`s police and to be present in lideta court to show their support for teddy. This is ethiopianism not much liked by weyane.

  9. To be quiet while corrupt regime is lecturing us the rule of law and locking up icons like Teddy Afro will be a shame on us.

Teddy is persecuted while some “Hodam” singers like Solomon Tekalegne are allowed to survive after kissing Melese’s shoes and some singers are telling us all is well and invite us to go and invest in Ethiopia.

Nothing is far from truth. Ethiopia is ruled by very few who are allowed to kill and imprison whomever they do not like including the “color” of his/her eyes or in Teddy’s case his message in his songs.

We say no to taking the beloved son of Ethiopia who refused to sing for our present day kings or rulers like some who are now campaigning for Melese Zenawi the likes of Aster Awoke, Solomon Tekalegne and others.

I also suggest all the Ethiopian Restaurants and Radio stations in the Diaspora to honor Teddy Afro by making a one week “Only Teddy Afro Songs” as a sign of solidarity with him.

    Thanks,

    Tedla Asfaw

  10. I think folks have to be careful in their decision-making process for holding any form of protest rally. I have read on this website that this gentleman was involved in a vehicular accident which caused a loss of human life. And left the site of the accident and never reported it. In addition, he did not have a driver’s license(valid or invalid). In other words, by law he did not have the permit to operate a motorized vehicle. If that is the case, then he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. This is almost universal whether there in Addis or Ulan Bator. Now, does he deserve to be thrown in jail? That also depends. If he is considered to be a flight risk, then the state must devise a plan, according to the inscribed law, in which he is deprived of the means to do so. Confiscating his passport is one reliable step. I question his intelligence when he decided to take the vehicle he owns on the road when he knows that by law he can not do that. He did not have the permit to do so. That is guilty number one. I am trying to be objective here not do not mean in a blind support of the officials over there. The 2nd and serious guilt is driving away from a site of an accident where a human life had been lost. You have to think for a moment at the possibility of survival for the injured if someone called emergency to give him valuable help. That poor person must have bled to death. It just broke my heart. So compatriots, please be reasonable and fair. In the meantime, I don’t agree with the court for sending him to jail. He should surrender his passport and set a hefty bail amount. One million birr can be a good amount. Let him put down 10% of that and yield his passport. That is my mediating opinion. Thanks for reading.

  11. The above two comments dose not make any sense. First of all every body knows that Teddy is innocent and he shouldn’t spend a second in jail. The despised tplf’s are using the court to revenge against a much loved true Ethiopian.tplf’s are not people of honor to respect shimagiles. We all know what happened after kinigit members released by shimagile’s mediation. They gave their party’s name and logo to others with no regard to the law.tplf is the most repressive regime in the world even worse than North Korea. We have to use this opportunity to shame their supporters in the west. It is very uncomfortable for their western handlers to see them go this low.

  12. WE ALL LOVE TEDDY!

I HOPE HE DIDN’T DO IT, PLEASE GUYS DON’T USE THIS APPORTUNITY FOR YOUR POLITICAL AGENDA. I ADVICE THAT DON’T PUT GASOLINE ON THIS FAIR AND PUT HIS LIFE IN DENGER.

    MAY GOD BE WITH HIM!

  13. We should protest not when some one is implicated in a crime of this magnitude(hit and run an innocent homeless-fellow Ethiopian), we should protest when innocent individuals not implicated in a crime but run and gunned down in the street of Addis, Ogaden, Oromia(Look at the Human Right watch). The street to freedom for every Ethiopian is when we start treating each other the way would like to treat Teddie Afro. Sorry brothers and sisters you may have good intention, but no one shall deserve a royalty in today’s Ethiopia. Let us end that once and for all with system of governance we would like to go away.

  14. welleyew, Wodajo Gurmo…etc.. please go comment on woyane web pages. Please dont bring your prpoganda here. Everybody knows Teddy is innocent and is being detatined by false charges to revenge his heroic works. Woyanes please please please…. let God burn you all alive! Death to all Woyanes!

  15. It is now the right time to act!!!!
Let’s break the silence & start to voice for Teddy Afro who is realy our hero as well as the Ogaden ppl., & for the whole nation too.

Let’s meet there & start the peaceful struggle by tomorrow! Pls. in the name of the Ehhiopias’ God (Allah)!!!!!!!

  16. As we all know tedi afro is ethiopian hero. He plaied important roll in ethiopian liberity using his only gun, music. He is a great hero who stands on his word when it is convineience or inconvineiense. tedi was not afriad to say no to ethiopian robbery, alamudin. instade he served his oppresed people free. when we come to the case, tadi have made little mistake which i didn’t excpect of him. first, he shouldn’t drive when he know that he didn’t have a license. Second, he souldn’t leave the scen with out reporting the incedent to the police officers. here we can race question of his patriot to his country . if he really cares about the poor laid down, who ever hit him, he should have helped him by calling officers. When we come to the final point tedi have made some sily mistake which made him target to wyane.

  17. Since when WEYANE worried about ethiopians life and concern about a loss of life by a car accident. DORON SIYATALUWAT KE AYROPLAN TALEWAT kind of things are happening. This thugs did kill their own friends and slauter innocent Ethiopians since the inception of this Goddly cursed TPLF, and their are accusing Teddy for the crime he may or may not committe. Please PROSECUTOR would you charge this THUGS for killing innocent Abissinians.

  18. I AM REALLY SAD BECAUSE I AM NOT IN US AT LEAST FOR THIS DAY.I AM STILL BITTER WITH A LADY WHO HAS TRIED TO ADDRESS THIS CASE CALLING TEDY “AZMARI”,EVENTHOUGH I DONT KNOW WHO SHE IS ,WERE YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR A LIVING.BUT FROM MY PAST EXPERIENCE THAT I HAVE WITH WEYANE, THE DAY I HEARD THIS NEWS I HAVE KNOWN AS IT IS AN ACT OF ON GOING REVANGE ON DIFFERENT CIVILIANCE WHO ARE THOUGHT AS THEY ARE ANTI WEYANE.LET US CONTINUE SHOUTING UNTILL THE DAY COMES WERE WE GET HEARD.

  19. Ato Abera,

Please do not associate me with a current government just because I said what was in my mine about this case. I know this site for a while and I was a loyal subscriber of the Ethiopian Review magazine when it was in print form. I am glad Mr. Elias transformed his expertise in the wonderful world of internet and created this platform. He should be commended for that. I thank him for letting my comment be available for the readers. You have to get off this old and rotten notion of labeling someone as a collaborator because has a different view. This short-sightedness will not take you and the likes any where. You have to have a stomach to be tolerant of others who have different views from yours. I hope you are not a mule, stubborn. If you are, a lot of people would tell you to lighten up. Stubbornness did not help the country. Just look at it.

  20. I don’t trust any singers, money is important for them not people of ethiopian look Neway Debebe went to ethiopia now. Tamagne, he don’t want to say any thing about weyane at this time. I like teddy Afro but I don’t trust him because he apologised to weyane and went to ethio.

  21. In my point of view Wodajo Gurmo said nothing that can make him look like woyanne, I oppose the woyanne regime very much but I am restricted morally to say Teddy is innocent even though I want to believe that he is innocent, TPLF is full of surprises, revenges and conspiracy, they might have staged the incident, killed someone to frame him or may have found a dead person on the street hit by another person and blamed Teddy for this. I wonder if anyone knows if a dead man at the scene was really there. But also Teddy is human and might have done it but I think I am sure that he has a driver’s license, its quite easy for a person like him to get one in a country where you can get your license bribing the officials there. Only God knows the truth, if he has done it, I am sure he didn’t do it on purpose so the victims family must be approched and Teddy must do something major for them and God help him with His reat mercy. If he hasn’t done it, then I would say, truth prevails and he will eventually will come out clean. Regarding the rally, a protest can be included in it for his favor but doing a rally for something that we really don’t know will put us in a place where we will be seen as if we always protest blindly while there are countless of innocent people we surly know who are in the harshest prisons by woyannes. We should remember this. Thank You

  22. Regardless of what happen, he should have been through to jail 2 years later. He should have been sent free in bail until he is proven guilty of the crime hit and run. But in Woyane world, as long as you are a public icon and can make an infuluence their stay in power, they will accuse you any for any reason to scielence your voice. Let us protest for the entire Ethiopian people who are stranded in jailes in Ethiopia.

  23. God Bless you Danny. We have to open up to everyone who is honest and independent in his/her opinion. We have to know the person before we embark upon name calling and character labeling. If Ted committed the crime, he should be accounted for it and should take full burden of the consequences. In doing so, his contributions to the advancement of the arts may have to be taken in consideration. But he should be subjected to the rule of law. I agree with Danny that if something acceptable can be worked out with the victim’s family, then the court may also take that in consideration. Remember, here or over there, nobody is above the law. I am sure he has the resources to hire the finest lawyers in the country. The burger is on both sides. The people (persecution) should prove to the court beyond the reasonable doubt that Ted committed the crime and left the scene of the accident and his defense should present a credible alibi to prove beyond the reasonable that Ted was not there at the scene of the crime at the time of commission. I am sure he has the financial resources to hire foreign legal consultants. I think that is fair. That is why I believe we should leave the case to take it course. It does not measure up to be an issue for going out and protest, unless we do not have better things to do.

  24. There is no justice in Ethiopia now days and It is unfortunate that no one can stop this madness. Teddy is the Ethiopian Icon who has touched many Ethiopian’s heart and soul with his music. This is just a pure injustices playing by the current gov of Ethiopia. Lets all pray for him and may God be with him.

  25. It is amazing how we loose our priorties. Teff is above $700 don’t get me even started with other commodities. We have the working poor who is fighting life with a mere $300-$400 salary while the woyane hodamoche are living it up. And what do we want to do…go on a protest for a single person…who could be guilt or innocent.

I wonder if any of you had the brain to think about how many children could go hungry or even die over time from this price hike. We may loose hundreds of kids due to malnourish or starvation and we don’t dare go out and complain but one singer is jailed….we stop the press and make a federal case out of it.

Sorry to say…Teddy maybe and probably a casuality of political game but he is not in my #1 list of issues to worry about at this time.

  26. Thank you KK. you just said exactly what i was about to say except about the woyane Hodamoche part. my fellow ethiopians are worrying about the things that should not concern them at all. i got nothing to say about teddy cause i don’t know much about him except for some of his love songs. teddy is in prison doing everything to keep him safe and cooperate with the local government. teddy is an opportunist, he does not have a bit care about ethiopian or its people. he is probably excited that he is in jail, cause he knows when he comes out he is going to make this song and make a million out of it. while he does it million people will die from hunger. those are the people we should be concern here in America and other places. teddye i love you but stay in jail cause that is where you belong if you did it. i got no reason that you did it or not, but that is what they said and i will let your inocense to free you.

  27. My ethiopian brother and sisters the guy who were killed by tedy is also ethiopian .Because tedy is fames thats is not OK to kill an inosent poor guy .Lets think if he was your brother THINK obout IT GOD BLESS THE POOR BROTHER

  28. Wodajo Gumuru whatever your name is you do not look like woyane to me but you are one of those monsters. I wish you brun in hell for this sheet. Teddy is a hero and Ethiopia people understand he is not a murdere unlike one of you. You wait and see ethiopia will be free some day soon.

I luv all of you who stood for the one and only Teddy

  29. I Really donot understand all this. What if Teddy killed the poor boy and run away? why do u all think he is such an angel. You all donot know the truth. In my opinion if he cause the death of somebody he need to pay the price regardless his great work. Donot get me wrong people. Teddy is gifted and I do appreciate his work, however if he did something unjust he need to pay the price. This is not about politics but just.

  30. I think most of the comment are retarded ithink the people who wrote them are retarded. Do you realy think the Ethipian goverment framed Tedy Afro for singing. The only worthwhile account I have read about this came from reuters other focused on the goverment. This could happen to anybody who drives if Teddy wants to prove innocence and live up to his music. He shoud:-
One provide the authorties with he driving license
Two find an albi or show them his car (it would be obvious if he hit sombody DNA does not lie)

  31. Been in the states for ages could somebody please point me to some articles or news reports aabout how the ethio gov works do the really frame, murder or use questionable methods. Oh don’t point me to some blog in aunties basement reputable indpendent sources only.
