WFP cuts food aid in Ethiopia

May 12th, 2008  |  5 Comments

EDITOR'S NOTE: There is no food shortage in Ethiopia. The problem is caused by mis-allocation of resources, mismanagement, and extreme greed by the tribal Woyanne regime. Large quantities of food produced in southern Ethiopia is loaded up daily on thousands of trucks and sent to the northern region of Tigray by the ruling Tigrean People Liberation Front (Woyanne). As a result, in Tigray today food prices are about 50% lower than in other parts of Ethiopia. Food is also being stored in massive grain silos that are being built in Tigray, while the rest of the country is facing shortages.

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - A lack of funds has forced the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) to cut by more than half the number of districts in drought-hit Ethiopia it serves, the food agency said on Monday and appealed for $76.4 million in aid.

WFP said shortages would prevent it from providing food supplements to malnourished mothers and children.

"Due to a funding shortfall, WFP has less food in its warehouses and as of the end of last month, it was forced to cut back food assistance operations … from 342 districts to 163 districts," WFP said in a statement.

"Despite evidence of malnourishment in some drought-affected areas, a food deficit will prevent the agency from providing nutritious, life-saving food supplements to acutely malnourished children and mothers."

WFP said it needed $76.4 million to feed mothers and children under five and to support the government's emergency relief programme.

WFP said that in 2007 it provided supplementary food to over 1.1 million Ethiopians.

A U.S.-based early warning system, FEWSNET, had said that up to nine million Ethiopians may need food assistance due to drought in 2008.

So honestly, why is it that most of the vocal Ethiopian Diaspora could not see the tribalist and cruel nature of the TPLF? What does it take that the narrow nationalist Weyane is making preparation to declare "independent Tigrai" including some lands it stole from Ethiopia. Never mind about the lands it occupies that belong to Eritrea. Eritrea will get them. What about the Ethiopian lands that have been robbed from the Ethiopian region. I am against Sudan if it took land that does not LEGALLY belong to it. But I do not know that if what they took or about to take is not theirs? But, I know Humera area of the Welqayt Tseghede, Weldya and Kobo of Wollo etc etc has been taken (not is about to be taken) but has ALREADY been taken by Weyane. Is that OK with the Ethiopian cyber warriors who are making us sick and tired by blaming Shaebia even, God forbid, if there was an earthquake in Ethiopia? As I have said it many times before, doesn't it make sense to work against the Weyane than blaming the problem on some neighborly countries including the Sudan? Why do some Ethiopians like to hide between the skirts of their mothers and blame Eritrea when in fact it is Eritrea single-handedly that is trying to solve the regional issues?

    Elias god bless you,
You keep bringing out the weyane's bad image on our people, you also strive very hard to reviel the truth on what is happening in ethiopia by the weyane regime. You are a night mare for weyane. On the otherhand there are a few shameless people who are organized them seleves in the name of oppositions in diaspora and keep insulting and being a no. 1 obstacle for the struggle that other strong oppostions do. For instance, ethiolion, debeteraw and other major websites of oppostions especially these websites claim that they are a strong supporters of EPRP, how ever at a daily average from thier 10 new article 7 or 8 of them are a direct character assination on strong oppostion leaders such as Dr. Birhanu and W/ t birtukan. The reason I decided to write my comment on this is. I have tried to comment them on each article they post but they never learn and they never post my comment. These few individuals are hopeless and just dreamers that want only to gain a few advantages from diaspora ethiopians in the name of struggle. If they beleive they no. one enemy is tplf, why dont they spend more time and energy on that. Instead they have a big ultimate goal, i.e. to aviod strong oppositon leaders by cussing out thier personlaity and control the so called struggle just to fulfill thier minor intersts with a little money and power. However, the fact is they need to learn form strong oppostion leaders and strong journalist like you inorder to get an acceptance among the people in diaspora. Otherwise, insulting individuals while they closed their doors dont take them no where. Shame on them.

You may now understand it better than befor years what Woyanne is doing according to their years masterplan. They know very well that they are not welcome and know also the price what they are going to pay at the end of the day. So, land to Sudan and weapons and food to North! As wolloye, I can imagine the coming time will be hard for ethiopia and ethiopians as woyanne is coming near to their target.

    Viel Spaß!

    Elias,

You think away with murder. Just to remind you: Suppose Kinijit the dead party you love comes to power, do you think you would never be sued for the genocidal and recist articles, commentaries, "editor's note", you have been posting? If whatever party comes to power and let you live in peace or let you see a day light in Ethiopia, that regime, can never be just. So, whoever comes to power you are a felon and would serve life sentence lest you happen to step foot in our beloved country Ethiopia. Like myself, others as well, could have been documenting all these rubbish you have been posting.

Suppose, Birhanu (betrayer) came to power by some un ever seen miracle, and being asked to bring to court for what you have been doing, for the sake of his reputation, he will send you to prison to rot there (that is berhanu's method). And even if other sobber minded come to power, and being presented by the tangible evidences, they will do likewise.

So, I guess you will never ever see our beloved country. I'll attend your funeral in US when you die.

    Love you mother Ethiopia
