25 people died in Benishangul region over land dispute

May 24th, 2008 |  |  9 Comments

Addis Ababa – At least 25 people have been killed in clashes over land between rival tribes in southwestern Ethiopia over the past week, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.

“Some 25 people were killed in clashes that erupted over land in Benishangul, but we expect the number to rise,” said Demsash Hailu.

He said the fighting had stopped after police were deployed in the Oromiya and Benishangul states that lie in the country’s southern region.

In 2006, some 150 people were killed in southern Ethiopia in more than a week of clashes between rival clans over land ownership following a jurisdictional re-alignment.

  3. Satenawu says:

Is as not only 25. As we got information from reliable sources, until yesterday a total of 400 people were killed and 18,000 displaced. This was orchestrated by Woyane to divert the attention of the people from what is going on in the country, mainly the hunger, the drought, etc…

Woyane as usual armed one group, in this case the Gumuz’s (aka Shanqilla), and advised them to attack the Oromo civilians who were disarmed by OPDO/Weyane fe years ago.

Some people describe it as a Genocide and the TPLF/woyane gov’t is behind this.

For sure the death toll will rise, and some estimate that it could reach at least 1000. Some wounded, who were lucky to survive, are still in the Hospital.

Time will tell, we are almost close to the Ruwandan Genocide.

I had served as a teacher for 30 years in Wellega since Zemene hailesellase.I am still living a retired in Wellega.I have never seen such kind of bloody clash. This is really a curse which came along tplf gangs.Well,in fact,a lot of people have been killed this couple of weeks in wellega fueled by woyane neftegnas who gives clashnkov to both side of the tribe and watching the evil game.It is really a shame and a pity!!

This drama has been done in many parts of Ethiopia(bedeno, arsi, harar, hirna etc etc etc)

    Down with woyane!!
