Lebanese leak information on Ethiopian jet crash investigation

February 9th, 2010 |  |  14 Comments

EDITOR’S NOTE: Any investigation conducted by the regimes in Lebanon and Ethiopia cannot be taken seriously. Both of them seem to have some thing to hide. The Lebanese, in particular, are acting in a highly suspicious manner.

BEIRUT (Reuters) — Pilot error caused the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane off the coast of Lebanon last month which killed all 90 people on board, a source familiar with the investigation into the accident said on Tuesday.

“The investigation team has reached an early conclusion that it was pilot error, based on the information from the black box,” the source told Reuters.

An investigation team involving Lebanese, French and Ethiopian officials had headed to France on Monday with the flight recorders, commonly known as “black boxes”, for analysis.

The Boeing 737-800 plane crashed minutes after taking off from Beirut in stormy weather on January 25, plunging in a ball of fire into the sea.

The pilot had failed to respond to the control tower’s request to change direction even though he acknowledged their demands. The plane made a sharp turn before disappearing off the radar, the Lebanese transport minister said at the time.

The eight-year-old plane, carrying mostly Lebanese and Ethiopian passengers, last had a maintenance check on December 25 and no technical problems had been found. It was bound for the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

Since retrieving the flight recorders from the Mediterranean on Sunday, Lebanese and international search teams have also located parts of the plane’s fuselage, where most of the victims’ bodies are believed trapped.

The bodies of at least 23 victims have been recovered so far.

dear editor you just told us not to rush into conclusion about the investigation but it looks like you yourself has already gotten to the conclussion that Ethiopian regime is trying to hide something. can you please elaborate in what that might be please? so if a plane crashes in meditranian then it’s “woyanes regime” fault right?

    tazabi,

Did Elias said it was Weyane who destroyed the plane. No, he didn’t. He said it is suspicious and, as far as I am concerned, it will remain so since everything Weyane seems to be flourishing on suspicion.

It is one thing to look at possible causes of this tragic accident but to jump to conclusion as some Lebanese officials did and still do without corroborating evidence is crime. Nothing could be ruled in or out be it pilot error, technical or even being hit with a missile or a bomb (after all Lebanon is not short of war machinery) no one would know till this box or other investigations are conducted properly. So patient should be the virtue.

  5. Faisal Tajudin says:

I think that the Ethiopian regime is not envolved in the crush of Ethiopian plane, but clearlly the regime does not want to enter the conflict with Lebanon because it lacks the moral of government of one’s country. Do Ethiopians belieave that the government which sells the part of it’s country will care for it’s plane except it’s only interests ? Ethiopian government interested more for diplomatic relations with Lebanon by pushing aside any conflict which will hinder it’s own interest.

I am also suspicious of both the Lebanese and Ethiopian sources — especially the Lebanese.

From Day One, the Lebanese have been trying to put the blame on the Ethiopian pilot while EAL has been insisting that the pilot, with 20 uears of experience, couldn’t possibly ignore the flight control’s advice before the plane went down in flames. I think there is something fishy about this quick leak of information.

Those people who are eager to put the blame on the pilot should have waited until the official report comes out.

    Tazabi,

There is some conspiracy that the woyanne regime is trying to hide! Seyoum Mesfin rushed to Beirut to talk to their foreign minister after the “accident” and the Lebanese regime has consistently been trying to convince us that it was pilot error even before the black box was located.

They’re leaking a wrong information now spreading the same rumors they’ve spread since the crash! I am glad France has the black box now and I hope they tell us the truth as to what really caused the accident!

    Tazabi,
What is wrong with you? You must be one of the top dog of Woyanes, for fearing that if the investigation is done thoroughly that it might show or reveal that the Woyane gvt. might have collaborated with the Lebanese to hide a vital information, perhaps Terrorist misssile attack might be the cause for the crash of the airplane. Otherwise you wouldn’t have rushed to sarcastically criticize the comment written by the editor of ER.

    dear anon from nashville.
just think about it. is there anything that could happen to that airplane with out any government (ethiopian or lebanesse) shooting it down or without any terorist blowing it up? com’on now be honest. i could think about ten of them of top of my head. so it doesn’t matter what political party i belong to.it’s all about common sense and knowledge. people said i’m woyane because i critisize the Editor for reaching to conclusion for something clearly he doesn’t know about. it’s funny the political party i’d like to belong to in not created yet. what we have so far is a bunch of pigs trying to get to the power seat and rule rather than serve my people. don’t get me started about political party. it’d probably take another 50 years before we get some decent rulers for our country. just look at the political parties we have here. the democrats are in power now but look at to the republicans they don’t run arround talking about killing the democrats now do they?
