By Alysia Patterson, The Medill Reports

WASHINGTON — In the world of African affairs, Ethiopia and Eritrea are historically unfriendly neighbors. But in the fashion world style transcends geopolitical tussles. Three young African immigrants — one from Eritrea and two from Ethiopia — joined forces to create a t-shirt line that fuses together their old and new cultures. And they’ve just found out it’s a winning combination… Watch the video below >>

Good Job Bernos, and keep up the awesome job. By the way can you guys make T- shirts not only shows the good part of our coutry but als the worest part of our country such as T-shirts shows ethipia under the current weyane regime including its socio, geo and economical situation. As one of the parter mentioned on the clip that you can simply shows a lot in art that words can not easily express it. However it you need some sample designs regarding my suggestion please contact me anytime so that I can provide you. The other thing we have to learn from these guys is that we all Ethiopians that concentrated our selves as either Ethiopian, or ertirian, or oromoia or any other ethinc group have to wake up and work to strengthen our solidarity to over come our daily problems in our surrounding areas. We have to say no to haters and we have to accept that our enemies are not any ethic group but dectators who want to achieve their ultimum goal on behalf of our names, while they have their own individual interests. I am so glad these youngsters are trying to work together by abiding their unexisted difference that is propaganated by a few people. Lets get out from ethinic fight and lets start to see things not as a society but as an individual. Let judge individually among our selves to avoid extremists adjenda. Let s not be a victim of extremists by hating a people that we don’t know but just because he/she is from that ethinic group or nation. For the last over three decades we have labeld and fought our selves by saying ereteria , Ethiopia, oromia and so on which is very silly and irrelevant. Instead lets work together to overcome our diverse proplems.

You go girl!!! You go boys!!! What an awakening call!!! Reading this story and watching the video gave me a lump throat, man!!! I was overwhelmed. I collected myself and decided to write this comment about this young group.

Let these three flowers bloom!!! Let them bloom unchecked to blanket and overwhelm those hydra-head ethnic hate mongers who came out of some woodwork in Dedebit and Nakfa!!! Let them prevail over chauvinism and narrow nationalism which have been sowing seeds of animosities among brothers and sisters living in neighborliness and harmony for generations. Let their budding union tear down the curtains from the eastern wall and shine in the valleys and meadows of this beautiful country we all know and adore as Ethiopia. We should all line up in front of their store and buy every thing they sell. I really envy their parents for raising such intelligent kids. God Bless Them, God Bless The United States of America and May God Also Bless Our Dear Motherland We Know as Abyssinia or Ethiopia!!!

  4. Ewnetu Ashebir says:

I am an Ethiopian and have a different take on this partnership forged by two intelligent young Ethiopians and an equally intelligent young Eritrean.

I would like to point out that this partnership with two Ethiopians and one Eritrean was possible because they have agreed to respect their respective cultural backgrounds to pursue their business interest. They are not talking here about Ethiopia or Eritrea – they are talking about their African roots and promoting Africa – which is the origin of humanity. Those of you who are obsessed with the idea that Eritreans do not have a right to determine their own future – I will tell you this – please get over it. They have every right to have their own country and develop their culture the way they see it fit.

There are similar stories in the world where group of people of different backgrounds, who lived together for centuries, decided to go their way.

The different Republics that came out of the former Soviet Union — including, I might add small countries such as Latvia (population 2.2 million),Lithuania (population 3.5 million), Armenia (population 2.9 million) etc., which have equal or less populations than Eritrea have excercised their rights to self-determination and become soverign states. Another country that broke into two is Czechkoslavakia, which has been divided into the the Czech Republic and the Slovenia (population 2 million). Now the Checks have their own country and the Slovenians have their own country. The two countries live side by side, respecting each others sovereignty and nationhood and have forged a friendly and harmonious relationship.

The lesson we should learn from the partnership of the two bright young Ethiopians the bright young Eritrean is that Ethiopia and Eritrea could co-exsist as two sovereign states and forge a harmonious relationship by respecting each others nationhood an sovereignty and promoting healthy relationship between our two brotherly and sisterly people.

And down the road we might be able to create a regional economic block that would include Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, Kenya etc., and work towards economic and political integration. All this would be possible once we recognize the fact that people have the right to self-determination and no one has a right to make the choice for them — they alone have the right to do so.
