Over 40 teachers and employees of Adama University, 100 kms south of Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, have been arrested during the past few days, according to Ethiopian Review’s correspondent in Addis Ababa.
The reason for rounding up and throwing in jail these number of teachers is not clear, but a teacher who escaped arrest told Ethiopian Review that the Woyanne regime police is accusing the teachers of poisoning students with spoiled food.

The reason Woyane stayed this long is because we now have a generation of young selfish people who are ready to trip each other than to fight for a good cause. In the old days University student fought for a higher cause such as “Land for the Tiller” and brought about societal change. I laughed when I heard, a few months back, of the news that AAU students went on protest to denounce the cafeteria condition in campus. They are more worried about their own belly. Today’s universities churn out “Hodam” by the thousands unlike a generation ago when students were more sensitive to freedom, justice and democracy.
We the old folks are in similar predicament too. Instead of helping opposition organizations and free media like ESAT, we come here as cyber warriors and write about how woyane is bad and go to sleep thinking we have accomplished something. We do not need cyber warriors we want concerned citizens who can positively effect change and people tho support them financially and otherwise. Posting articles on the web will not bring any change.
We have yet to learn how to use technology to bring about change. simply posting articles is not enough.
TUTU: It is not that the teachers are cooking food and poisoning the kids, that is a figurative speech, what woyane meant by that is, they are feeding the student’s mind with thoughts about freedom and good governance, and that the student’s at adam university, are learning how the woyane regime is stealing and destroying the country. of course this kind of education would be seen as the worst type of rat poison to feed the minds of our young people in higher learning environment. I rather surprised that woyane has not shut the entire university down, to show others that, true education and freedom of speech is not allowed. what else would one expect from a dictator who is allergic to free minds. It is a shame the student’s of Adam university are not only robbed from getting good education but also lesson that stimulate their mind and to have the ability to critically think of their government, as they could be the future leaders of Ethiopia. Way to go Woyane, keep locking up the learned and educated, so the idiot leaders of woyane who have specialized in buying degrees from distant learning universities no one heard before. So obviously they have no respect nor the understanding to be able to know the value of having a good teachers and universities. TO them good teachers are nothing but poisons to the minds of the youth. any way and the saga continues, sooner or later this chaka arawit must return to the caves are dur they came from. You ask the right question.The answer might be various factors.
1- The Weyane infltration of Ethiopian oppostion leders and the disgrace fall of Lidetu followed by Hailu let our morale down.
2-Unwillingness to paysacrifice on the part of leading figures except Birtukan.
3-too much self assertive behaviour on the part of some leaders,instead of desire how to get rid of weyne.
4-We need our people to rise and resist across the country.
Perhaps,we need to leave the leaders alone,and encourage the citizens at home to rise and demand weyane to live office now.As I see it now the remaining options are two:unite and demand the removal of weyane or be killed on at a time.
This is another form of genocide–woyanes are intimidating and killing Ethiopia’s well educated and brave men and women a few at a time. The question is what are we going to do about it and when?
Truth, I dont blame you. You might be out of the country for long. Before you blame them you need to know how different university life now and then is.Then i believe the education police to some extent is based on what your generation can do for the country after graduation. Now the police is based on apartheid style (tigreans graduate from 12th grade others from 10th grade very few percentage goes to college) every tigreans goes to college specially those out side tiray are infilated by tigrays. the once in tigray are left for non tigrayan, even if they revbel the mekelle police can take care of it. Most tigraya students are armed and they can give orders to college police.double education policy in single nation.
Weyanes are scared of oromos and amharas. If possible they make these two giants fight each other, if not they attack them at different time.the blame should be on shame full ‘politicians’ OPDO AND ANDM, they know what is going on, they know the new education policy is just for non-tigrays.These weyane creatures are the once to take blame. What is wrong with us Ethiopians? Are we really the decendants of our heroic fathers and forefathers? I am note sure whether we are. Like Lema (the first commentator above) said it: “even a mouse fights back when it is cornered”. When are we going to fight for our right. Our money is looted away in billions of dollars. It has got to be a country governed by minority regime. We are more hungry than ever. We are made second class citizens in our own country. Let us start and send these bastards away and make Ethiopia exactly that what it was before the bastards took power. There is no success without paying life and Let us start fighting back. It is true that Woyyanes is doing what ever they like at the cost of our disagreement. Really i did not see any part that is ready to include all Ethiopian. Some of the list are dreaming for the old Monarchy illusion to come again.This is unacceptable in any form. Others think in their ethnic mentality, (not helpful). Some others dream only for power, (no clear direction).
I am totally against woyyane, equally even by far more against Monarchy kind of mentality. pls let us set our goal, otherwise the problem will not be resolved

Yes, it is very ridiculous to hear that students have been poisoned by their teachers. The facts will sarface itself sooner or later and we will have to take the case seriously ( whether it is politically motivated or otherwise.)

It is a repeatition of what TPLF did back in 1991 when they summarily dismissed professors from the University. We could not stand our ground and we paid dearly for it. It is the same today. If you don’t stand against apartheid system it keeps on bleeding you inside out. There should be a time when we can say “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’.
