Ethiopian Olympic Committee failed our athletes and country

What a beautiful joy to see our athletes wining their race and representing our Ethiopia in the international venues such as Beijing where the world is focusing for the last two weeks, their effort s presented to the world the other side of our Ethiopia than the poverty, famine or hunger (though Woyanne is playing games with these words).

Like most of Ethiopians, I waited for hours to see our athletes at the opening ceremony, and the moment came but my long wait was in vain. Instead I saw unknown individuals, except Miruts Yifter holding the flag, representing Ethiopia in one of the best event ever held and watched by billions of people around the world. I said where is Haile, Tirunesh, Kenenisa, Meseret, Berhane, Gete or even Derartu or Fatuma?

Then I started to look into why our athletes were not part on the opening ceremony, and the first reason which came is shortage of budget! The Ethiopian government [Woyanne] has not enough money to bring the athletes to the Olympic venue on time.

This trigger a question: who will cover then the expense of the persons we saw in the opening ceremony (officials of the Woyanne-organized millennium celebration were part of it though). And then I heard that the Ethiopian National Olympic Committee President, Wzr. Dagmawit Girmay, and some government officials were attending the whole Olympic games. I said to myself this is normal as they have some work to do there. But all of them were with their families! For example Wzr. Dagmawit Girmay was with her husband and children attending the Olympic events for two weeks! Who covered their expenses? The government! She was NOT the only one who brought her family over there. Many of the government officials have attended the Olympic Games with their families, all expenses covered by the Government!

But there was not sufficient fund to bring our athletes earlier to Beijing and get them used to the weather and prepare them for their race!

If this was done, I am sure that the women Marathon race as well as Meseret Defarʼs result would have been much better (Meseret flew to Beijing only two days earlier for the 5000m race).

What a shame! And I am sure they donʼt care!

But as usual, our athletes made history despite all the odds. We are very proud of them!

  1. I was also deeply disappointed for not seeing either former or current Athletes. I was happy to see Miruts but all I saw was others who were fat ugly pigs. Very Very disappointing, we did not have anymore than 5 people. Shame on the idiots.

My brothers and sisters woyanne is destroying our history,our national flag by putting a devil star right in the middle,by land locking our country,by deporting our brothers and sisters, by stealing our vote,by killing our childern,by throwing our elected leaders to the dungeon like common criminal,by killing our brothers and sisters the Oromos,the Amharas,the anuaks,the Ogadens,by selling our national interst to others,etc after all this I do not understand the fuss.LET US FOCUS!FOCOUS!FOCUS! ON WHAT WE CAN DO TO STOP THE TPLF THUGS FROM FUTHER DESTROYING OUR MOTHER LAND.HOW LONG ONE CAN STAND TO BE THIRD CLASS CITIZEN IN HIS OWN COUNTRY?

  4. the reason why our athlets were not budget or some other reason. but it is due to the decision made by the trainers to keep the atheles at home until the track events kick off even the consideration of beijing weather or climate that affects the fitness of the athletes during this period and find themself expired at the time of event.

    And this idea was good and worthy that why our athlets got good result and we proud of them. I think, here the main thing is the result and everyone wished that our top could have appeared on the opening ceremony but what it is matters their health and fitness which triggers good result. so let see in this way.

  7. i think our bigest problem isn’t about who or how many of the past stars lined up for the opnning seremony but when do we win our 1st olmpic gold outside of middle and long distance running??? its time we put the pressure on the ethiopian olompic comitte to start looking into other areas.

  8. It was a deliberate move by the Weyane criminal group that they didn’t show our real athletes during the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics. Actually, we oppositions and non-oppositions who are victims of the Weyane current criminal group are not working hard enough to remove weyane, as on the other hand weyane is always working things against the will of the Ethiopian people.
    Apart from the weyane daily atrocities of weyane that is bounded by killing, harassing, abusing, high rocket inflation, giving lands of Ethiopia to neighborhood countries and many other crimes , weyane works very hard to destroy the whole country using various mechanisms. One of the part of destroying Ethiopia is putting Ethiopia without the people’s legacy in such events like Olympics. Instead, the weyane criminal group is trying to show a one ethic group priority in any occasions that Ethiopia can be represented.

    Look wro. Dagmawit Girmay is not only a president for the national Olympic committee, she is also ethnically a member of the TPLF( the worst cruelty mafia group in east Africa). In addition to that weyane has a long term program to eradicate the patriotism of Ethiopiansim from all Ethiopians using a gradual method. For our convenience weyane has started to carry out this plan by their leader Meles Syetanwi who had publicly denounces that our flag is just a piece of cloth, and consequently said that what is the meaning obelisk aksum for the Welayta people and so on…..Therefore, Weyane didn’t involve our athletes at the opening ceremony was a deliberate move by weyane to discredit Ethiopians from the international forums….

    Therefore if we all need to stop disappointed by the daily atrocities of weyane and if we all need to stop disappointed from the future destructive plans of weyane…there is not going to be a better time to organize ourselves and fight by any means possible against the weyane mafia group than now….

    Lets support best parties that acquires best leaders as ginbot 7 and start fight weyane once and for all…otherwise we will continue to hear many other unbelievable crimes of weyaane, since weyane has not finished their destructive legislative proposal plan against the Ethiopian people.

    Let’s not give another chance to weyane criminal group in 2012 London Olympic to undermine the will of our people.

  9. Who the hell is dagmawit girmay another weyane propped up from ethnic minorty of tigray? What is her credential to be president? who is paying for her husband and kids expenses?

  11. First and formost lets all congratulate to the true athlete of Ethiopia who never bugged by weyane filthy tricks before or after the events. They are heroes to themselves and to the entire Ethiopians as well Africans; however, how sad weyane is using them to hoodwinkle all the Ethiopians through out the world to propogate their dirty agendas. After nearly 18 years power why are they pretending as they are the true Ethiopians when the same group fractured Ethiopia and Ethiopians communities beyond repair. People weyanes believe from here on after belief is the guns. They are cornered like a wounded dog who would bark as it is any other dog. The war with Eritrea did not prove them as they are true Ethiopians; the killing of the innocent Ethiopians through out the country did not prove them as they are the defendants of Ethiopians; the Bush/Frazer order of war against the Somalia did not buy them extra nationality; what weyanes are doing are the same thing over and over be it during or after Beijing olympics: DISTROY ETHIOPIA ONE DAY AT A TIME FOR THE SAKE OF MELES AND HIS STOOGES!

  12. Haven’t you heard our well known “Sishom yalbela sishar yikochewal”? This is the problem of the poor (with the exception of wealthy in mind) coming to power. They have to take advantage of the moment to satisfy their needs before they are removed. The problem is they will never be satisfied.
    It is nice of you to put out the news, eventhough we know it all along.

  13. I admire overall the performance of our athelets! Good job done and I am proud of them!!
    I agree with Hagos on the comments about the evil acts of woyanne! What we saw on the opening ceremony is disgraceful and bunch of ‘hodams’ who has nothing to do with sport activity at all!! Look ‘kersam’ Seyoum Bereded! I remember how he managed to stay in addis ababa university for more than 8 years to get one bachelor degree! The guy will do anything to satisfy only his personal ambition! When people were mourning about the deaths of their loved ones killed by the ‘aremene’ woyane he was infatuated with these killers…
    When the regime crumble what will be the fate of these ‘hodam’ people. It is not far away!!

    If the Ethiopian National Olympic Committee President, Wzr. Dagmawit Girmay, didn’t go who you think should GO? PD. MELES? who is going to cover his expense?

    You guys who not ask the same question to Mr.Bush? and the other 50 world leaders who cover their expense?

    The more Wzr. Dagamwit Girmay enjoy the olympic the more she work harder to make fund avalable to the next olympic HOPFUL… therefore it is her job to go with the team… if she doesn’t know how the olympic run and see for her self how in hell she is going to perper the next HOPEFUL?
