OLF statement on Woyanne's peace gimmick

November 17th, 2008 |  |  8 Comments

OROMO LIBERATION FRONT
Provisional Committee

Statement on TPLF’s Peace Gimmick

After 17 years of back and forth peace initiatives which have resulted in nothing, the OLF is convinced the TPLF minority dictatorship cunningly uses “peace overtures” of one kind or another, not to genuinely resolve the Oromo question peacefully but rather to distract our aggrieved population and sow discord among the Oromo liberation camp, thereby buying precious time to overcome mounting political challenges.

The OLF Provisional Committee takes this opportunity to make a complete departure from this dubious past culture of deception and fruitless exercise and rather focus on the fundamental task of transforming the Oromo struggle by building the necessary organizational strength with which to meet the aspirations of our people and end their age-old misery.

At this juncture we would remind our people not to be deceived and confused by fake, empty and fruitless projects seemingly undertaken in the name of peace when it is abundantly clear that the
TPLF is the sole perpetrator of conflicts and destabilizations at home and abroad. The TPLF is not a force for peace. The regime has chosen the course of force and massacre. In this public gimmick, what the TPLF minority regime and the so-called elders are demanding for is to submit and surrender. We shall not submit and surrender but rather we will fight back by all means within our power in defense of our people and our freedom.

Victory to the Oromo People!!
OLF Provisional Committee

To be fair as a journalist, the Ethiopian Review staff is expected to post the statements of both OLF factions/groups.

    With regards.

  2. Gabra says:

I am still troubled by this people-threatening conclusion of 'Liberty to the Oromo People' only. Victory against what and how long is it a valid slogan? As an Oromo who is fervently proud for being an Ethiopian, I have issues with this slogan in this and age. To my knowledge and from what I read out there, there will never be a viable separate Oromo State. Period!!! Call me Gobena or confused Oromo. I don't really care. I have already decided to live in peace and harmony with the Amharas, Sidamos, Tigreans, Afars, Somalis and the rest of many nations in the current Ethiopia. Balkanization will never happen there. If it was to happen, it would have happened by now after more 30 years of tireless effort by those who want to see fragmented. That includes The Derg and the current regimes. If you start hurling insults at me for saying this…my reply will be a resounding – 'Get Lost'!!!!!!!!

  4. Nansobdu says:

Gabra (2 above) is either really mentally gabar(slave) or a Wayyane. 'Vectory agaist what?'If you are Tigre, you even do not understand Wayane's approach, they do not sure such silly words. If you are Oromo, you are simply slave minded studid.

This is interesting time, indeed. TPLF says that they extended their hands for peace. International media echoes it. Then follows statement by what is now known as provisional committee (of the OLF).

I may fail to agree with the OLF but I can tell the difference between OLF and TPLF. I don't think the OLF have ever responded to the TPLF by saying, "We shall not submit and surrender but rather we will fight back by all means within our power in defense of our people and our freedom."

If they say so, then they have truly changed into a puppet of some kind.

Peace is not a political tool. It is the most practical action that all groups are expected to consider by conceding and accommodating difference of opinion in order that the outcome serves the most people.

Pray for peace, friends! It is the only way out!

  6. Come Together. says:

OLF , come to the progressive point and make policy changes. Stand with other Ethiopian oppositions and fight for the freedom of all Ethioian people. The ormo people are the father and the pilar of the state of Ethiopia. You come out from political limbo and lead the nation to as the first majority. Do not be the tool for Woyane. Break tyhe silence and come out to speak as Ethiopian.

Nubmer 2 Gabra, do you want that the Oromos remain as slave as yourself ? Really i don't care whether you are Oromo or not, but i can say that it is not you who deceids for the Oromo people. Enslaved Oromos and Non-Oromo strangers cannot deceide the fate of Oromos. I don't doubt that you are the wolf among the sheeps.
