ONLF warns Petronas to leave Ogaden

ONLF Statement
On Exploitation Of Ogaden Oil & Gas Wealth

The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has stated on multiple occasions that we will not allow the exploitation of the oil and gas wealth of our country as long as our people are denied their legitimate rights to self-determination. In that context, the ONLF affirms that if reports that Petronas will resume oil exploration activities in Ogaden are true, this will not be tolerated.

When our people reclaim their rights to self-determination, all legitimate ventures aimed at exploiting the oil and gas wealth of our country will be entertained. However, until such time, all companies interested in engaging in such activities should be on notice that the Ogaden is a war zone and that the Ethiopian regime does not have effective control of Ogaden, nor does it have the legitimacy to enter into contracts on behalf of our people.

Petronas and similar companies should consider the damage to their reputation if they effectively enter into a contract with a regime engaged in war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ogaden. These companies would be better served by seeking to play a role in resolving the long standing conflict between the Somali people of Ogaden and successive Ethiopian regimes so that they can pursue their economic interests in an environment where they are welcomed by the people.

We urge Petronas to exercise corporate responsibility and steer clear of Ogaden so long as our people are victims of genocide and their rights to determine their own future are violently denied. To do anything less would be to act as an accomplice to a regime engaged in yet another African genocide.

  1. TRUE…. Petronas could understand the Ogaden situation, if not, they will share better experience with china firms as happened Obole 2007…..

Ogaden heroes can monitor and control thier country from external greadiness-like ones including oil firms like Petronas despite Woyane genocide to un-armed civilians in Ogaden, Although the response of the genocide will be offered back to Woyanes sooner and sooner.

Ogaden Somalis will get their rights sooner, and live freedom like freed people of the world…..

  2. ONLF should reconsider its thoughts. It is the land of Ethiopia not only ethio-somalis. The Ethiopian government has the right to do what ever it wants. Even though TPLF is doing a genocide in Ogden area, it has a right.

The only thing we should concentrate is to stop killings of people of OGADEN and try to make it a peaceful place and remove TPLF from power.

  3. Greed never sees justice and what`s right,it`s always for the bottom line. However, the Ogadenis will never allow others to disrespect them.Petronas, don`t force yourself ino others` homes as an illegal intruder.Meles is a war criminal and you know it.Wait until you can deal with the rightful owners of the land-the Ogadenis.

    THIS IS A SHAME!

At a time when we are trying to unite all Ethiopians against TPLF we have these ONLF who are saying we are not Ethiopians.

ONLF shape up and claim allegiance to Ethiopia.
We can get woyane out together.

  5. Amin Ahmed, what the hell do you mean by saying ONLF can monitor and control “their country”. Ogaden is not “their country”, its our country. ONLF freedom fighters are Ethiopians, they are our brothers and sisters, and Ethiopia belong to all of us. ONLF freedom fighters are not fighting to secede from Ethiopia, they are fighting to liberate the Ogaden Somalis from the Weyane tyranny. We need courageous and visionary leaders like Elias Kifle in our country. Because it is only when Ethiopia has become strong, just and prosperous that we will be able to live in peace, harmony and prosperity side by side in a strong and united country. Please stop making moronic comments.

  6. “THIS IS A SHAME!” mamo. Hmm… SHAME for you but fame for ONLF. That is the nature of the conflict and you can do nothing about it except supporting Wayane. In that cas, I hope that you remember as what has recently happened to those Chinese and their Wayane coaches who were actively prospecting in Ogandenia. Secondely, please also remember the fact that those ONLF fighters were not dying just transfer their wealth from Petronas to you for fear of your “SHAME”,or do they? :)

I am double neutral myself! :)

  7. Shame on Habtamu!!! because the idea of ethiopianization can not be ensured by force, but it needs the will of the people….. some thing you should reconsider is “how old is the name of ETHIOPIA?” means you can choose an other.
any one like Menilik-Selasse-mangistu-Meles can not force Ogaden people to share that Famine-Poverty-brutality-cruelty dominated name of Ethiopia. Instead you can discuss with them future names that could bring back humanity-prosperity-proudness-live for love for the sake whole horn peoples including present day Ethiopian and Ogadenis.
Let us first guarantee the right to self determination, then make Choices…..

  8. The irony is that the only reason all these regions want to secede is because stayin with Ethiopia would be of no use to them. If our country had been developed even to the extent of a few other African nations, all the Eritreans, Somalians, and even Djiboutians of the world would be begging to join the ‘Democratic’ Federal Republic of Ethiopia. It’s all about the power of the dollar, or in our case, the Birr! Aint noone to blame but a retarded government.
