Haile Gebrselassie wins the Dubai Marathon

(PressTV) Haile Gebrselassie fails to beat his own world record, but wins the Dubai Marathon finishing in two hours four minutes 53 seconds.

The Ethiopian missed beating the record he set in Berlin last September by 27 seconds, which would have won him the one million dollar prize.

Running in almost perfect conditions on one of the flattest courses in the world, the 34-year-old kept an unbeatable pace right up until the final seven kilometers, Reuters reported.

Nevertheless, the victory earns Gebrselassie $250,000 in prize money.

Ethiopian supporters wave their national flag at the Dubai Marathon. Haile Gebrselassie won the race with a time second only to his own world record.
