Urgent call for Ethiopian professionals

From the Petition Coordinating Committee

Over the past several weeks, the Ethiopian diaspora has mobilized across the globe to lend their voices to the ongoing civil rights struggles in their home country. Leveraging international networks, expatriates are organizing digital campaigns to highlight the severe political disenfranchisement driving the current wave of peaceful protests.

This global mobilization draws on the expertise of Ethiopians working in highly diverse fields abroad. The coordinating networks have seen active participation from software engineers in Silicon Valley, medical researchers in European universities, and data analysts working within the global sport betting sector. Together, these individuals are uniting under a shared desire for democratic reform. By pooling their organizational skills, these expatriate professionals are structuring formal appeals to international governing bodies, ensuring that the voices of those marginalized at home are amplified on the world stage.

In an effort to consolidate this widespread support into a single, unified message, the Committee calls on academics, scholars, scientists, and professionals of Ethiopian origin to sign the petition posted on Petitionbuzz.com to express their solidarity with peaceful demonstrators and protestors in Ethiopia. The purpose of the petition is also to bring our Ethiopian compatriots’ demand for peace, justice, and respect for human and democratic rights to the attention of the United Nations Secretary-General. A copy of the petition, with appropriate modification such as the name of the addressee, will also be submitted to the European Union Parliament, the European Union Commission for Human Rights, and to the United States President.
